Plans are complete for Myrtle Point High School graduation exercises. The baccalaureate service will be Sunday June 4 in the high school cafeteria. Commencement is set for Thursday June 8 at 8 p.m. in the gym with Dr. John Schultz, psychology professor, as speaker.

Flower Show Dates Set For Myrtle Point Garden Club Exhibit

The Myrtle Point Garden Club plans its annual Flower Show for Friday June 2 and Saturday June 3 at the Haga building on 6th and Spruce. Entries and judging occur Friday 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Exhibits open to the public Saturday 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Entries must be grown by the exhibitor and containers provided. one entry per class unless special permission is granted.

Myrtle Point Sends Two to State Track Meet in Corvallis

Myrtle Point high school will be represented by junior Richard McCuskey in the mile and freshman Bill Thomas in the pole vault at the Oregon state meet in Corvallis. McCuskey qualified with a 4:49 mile at Coquille and Thomas vaulted 10 6 to reach the state event, marking a significant early appearance for a young athlete. The pole vault Friday and mile Saturday will showcase the local duo against tougher competition.

Powers Agness highway and Rogue river bridge plans announced

An unofficial Powers report says five miles of road work funding for the Powers Agness highway and a Rogue river bridge bid call around July 1. Bids for the bridge and road projects are set for August 1 with start this summer. Similar funds will be spent on the Agness Gold Beach road with comparable bid timing. White Water boat races on the Rogue are planned for the 4th Sunday in July with a chance of jet boats.

District 41 Band Festival at Myrtle Crest Tonight

A district wide band festival is set for Thursday May 25 at 8 p m in the Myrtle Crest school gymnasium. Over 350 students from Dera Sitkxim Arago Broadbent Bridge Myrtle Crest and the High school join five units including 5th grade 6th grade 7th grade 8th grade and the high school band. Bands directed by Les Simons and Fred Schmale perform selections suited to each group then unite for a finale. The public is invited with no admission charge.

Reverend Gear transfer ends seven year Oregon pastorate

Reverend Gerald Gear and his wife leave the Myrtle Point Methodist Church after a seven year Oregon tenure to return to Texas. Gear, not directed by the bishop, ends his final sermon next Sunday as the congregation grew from 248 to 260 members with 28 newcomers and 16 former members moving to other conferences.

Myrtle Point dairyman Melden A. Carl was elected to the board of directors of the Oregon Egg Producers at the 41st annual meeting in Salem on May 16. He will represent Coos and Curry producers on the former cooperative board shared with his brother Herbert. The pair run a 260 acre dairy and own 138 cows.
