Powers Boy Phi Beta Kappa at University of Oregon
John Wiwatowski a Powers High School valedictorian and now sophomore at the University of Oregon medical school in Portland received his Phi Beta Kappa key on May 18 at Gerlinger Hall in Eugene. He completed college in three years with a 4.0 average and earned a state scholarship for his junior year to cover tuition and lab fees. He plans to paint houses this summer with a friend to fund extra expenses.

Policeman Saves Mill and Six Jobs in Early Morning Fire

Free Physical Exams Offered for New First Graders
All children entering first grade in District 41 are asked to report with a parent before June 1 for a free physical examination. Exams will be at Myrtle Point Medical Clinic at Mast Hospital. The Myrtle Point budget committee approved the 1962 68 city budget on Monday evening. The 1962 63 budget totals 13 288.74 above last year due to police needs insurance costs and a $3460 charge for sewage plant litigation. The Lions club may build a double tennis court at Rotary park and George Mc Clellan is named fifth recreation committee member. Chuck Humble is appointed recreation director for the summer.

Coos county voters rejected a proposed annual $335 000 road levy for a three year program to fund long range road work. Singing Festival Friday Afternoon at Myrtle Crest Gym
The district 41 spring Singing Festival will begin at 1 30 p m Friday in the Myrtle Crest gym featuring Stephen Foster melodies.
