The program from Willamette University offers two weeks in France with a two month study plan, and Nicklaus has led Powers’ French course since 1941 with 30 students enrolled.

Frank Richards of Fairview route 1830 was crushed by a 100 foot power pole while working on the Tyee power construction line near Creswell on May 7. He was taken to Sacred Heart Hospital in Eugene in a full body cast with two broken legs and a crushed pelvis, with about six months expected for recovery. wife Hazel says he can receive visitors.
Dora Cemetery Association secretary Dora E Gearhart urges the community to attend the annual meeting and work day on Saturday May 19. Volunteers are needed for grass cutting and fence repair and to bring a potluck lunch.
Debbra and her daughter Mrs Kenneth Du Ceanacered won top honors in last week’s Musi Man contest in Coquille with Debbra taking first place and the daughter earning second. The event featured a variety of acts and concluded with a prize awarded for musical performance.

The District 41 administrative building on Spruce Street will host a student art display from May 14 to 18 featuring work from Alt through 12th grade. Each room may exhibit up to four pieces including watercolors oils tempera charcoal drawings copper work clay and wood carvings from Myrtle Crest Maple Spruce Arago Sitkum Broad Bend Dora Bridge and Pyrtle Point high school.
The Powers Baptist Church held a ground breaking ceremony on May 6 for new buildings including a sanctuary Sunday school rooms and a kitchen. Rev John Johnson serves as pastor of the church.

Eddie Meeker of Arrowhead Ranch will lead the tour starting at Arrowhead Ranch near Phoenix at 9:30 am. The group will visit Hereford cattle establishments including Chine Small Don Nirhiple Richard Ireland Mel Tinker and Howell Conk, with a free steak barbecue at Don Nicholes Emigrant Lake Ranch at noon.
At 2 10 pm Friday a timber limb fell from a tree onto Lowell Barnett a timber faller with Four Bit Gulch employed by Acme Mill company. The tin hut protected him from serious injury witnesses say he was knocked unconscious Barnett was taken to Mast Hospital with a head laceration a fractured rib and bruises his condition labeled good by attendants and he may receive visitors
