Hiland theater announces installation of RCA High Fidelity Sound with ultraviolet recording quiet reproduction and wide audible range. Opening night Friday May 7 features the musical comedy Pennies From Heaven and a marquee penny throw for children at 7 pm.
May National Child Health Day kicks off May 1 with a nationwide demonstration by child health agencies focused on health protection for every child. Senator George Chaney is county health campaign chairman, and Mra Lowell Paget, state observance chair, announces a noonday luncheon May 13 at a Coos Bay hotel with a program, officer elections, and a child health institute led by Dr A E Huostom and Miss Elsie Witcher.
The Myrtle Point Future Farmers chapter held its annual officer election to prepare for the state convention in Corvallis last weekend. Newly elected are Eugene Bartlett president, Gam De ment vice president, Eldon Hermann secretary, Eugene Reed treasurer, Donald Trigg reporter, and Ernest Davenport sergeant at arms. The installation will occur in the second week of May.

A Myrtle Point fire alarm at 3 30 Monday afternoon sent the fire department to the Myrtle Gold Creamery where a spark from the chimney ignited a section of the roof on an adjacent old frame building. Light damage estimated at about six dollars, quickly extinguished.
City tennis court work began last Thursday with civic groups donating labor and equipment. A gravel shoveling party moved twenty yards. more gravel is needed. Sponsors include the chamber of commerce the Lions club the Junior Womans club the Woman's club and the city council.
Probate records show the estate of Lawrence Townsend who died at North Bend on April 24 1937 valued at 3300 was admitted to probate April 28 with widow Ivy Townsend of Seattle sole heir. The pickup delivery car owned by Lester Dement stolen in Myrtle Point Saturday evening was found abandoned outside Marshfield Tuesday afternoon. It had been parked on Fourth Street off Spruce about 8 PM Saturday and hidden in brush near Millington. officers have no clue who took it.

Cappy Ricks a sea tale of a temperamental captain and his first mate Matt Peasley will be staged Wednesday May 19 in the Myrtle Point High school auditorium. The senior cast includes Robert Bollon Mitt Peasley Charlies Smith Florence Ricks and others with Grace Mary Linn directing. Tickets are on sale at Semper t s drugstore or from cast members.
Byron Hervey son of Mr and Mrs Henry Hervey of Lee sustained head injuries last Thursday in a logging camp accident at the Brady and Neal camp in Allegany. He was not seriously hurt and will stay several days at a nearby hospital for treatment.
The Junior Woman's Club hosted a box social dinner in Lundy Hall with games and dancing. Eugene Laird served as auctioneer as baskets sold to the highest bidder. Mrs Shirley Laird won a two pound can of coffee for the prettiest basket. Music for dancing was provided by Mrs Ellis Dement and Mrs Glenn Neideigh.
A Sunday early fire ruined the Frank Roundtree home on the Gridge Myrtle creek road when a stovepipe hole ignited the attic. Mark Hardman owned the four room structure and the Roundtree family plans to move to Remote after collecting essentials. The Bridge community gathers donations at Logging Trail store with a delivery at by Friday May 7.
James Davis, arrested April 20 in Powers on a charge of being drunk in a public place, is serving a 30 day county jail sentence with parole possible in 10 days. Other arrestees include Earnest Clark 44 jailed 230 days on a public highway charge. J W Phinegar 33 90 days for injury to a building. Gladys Darling Bunt held on $1500 bail for obtaining money under false pretenses.
The local chamber of commerce meets next Tuesday evening May 1 at Floyd's Cafe to discuss standardization of dairy products. An Oregon State College man is expected to address dairy problems and Jesse Clinton will report on organizing the Coos Curry Cheese corporation.
Mrs. George Mullen of Seventh Street is critically ill at home. At press time she is resting easily and can recognize only relatives.
The junior class hosted the junior senior banquet in the Arago gym with the Ladies Aid in charge. May Day decorations featured evergreen boughs and gold and lavender streamers. Mr and Mrs Dwight Culver and daughter Mary Lou of Bridge visits relatives from Saturday to Tuesday. They meet W J Knight in Carlton, dine with MM W PrTaareig and family in Molalla, and conclude with Canby visits to the Nelsons and Perkins family.
New residents Mr and Mrs H. A Koeller and their three children from Dunsmuir California rented one of the True apartments at Broadbent in the latter part of last week. Koeller has contracted the building of a road to the Salmon Mountain mines.
News of the death Sunday of Mrs. Dorothy Carson Belmore of Portland reached here Tuesday She was born in Portland in 1912 and married in 1934 A Woodstock School and Commerce High School graduate she served as secretary of Buckman School for five years Her brief visit to this city about three years ago is noted.

Miss Violet Smith daughter of Mrs Frances Smith of Mast hospital and Hervey Clifford Kolstad son of Mr and Mrs Harry Kolstad of Los Angeles were married Friday April 30 1987 by Justice Clarence Barton at his office in Coquille The bride wore an oxford gray suit with a yellow blouse and a spring bloom corsage The couple will make their home in Myrtle Point.

In the season opener, Arago defeats Powers 38 to 9 as Clyde Lillie breaks his nose for the second time this year.
