Mrs Dale Hoehne Sears sales merchant announces a Sears catalog agency opening at 310 Spruce Street Myrtle Point in about three weeks after remodeling with limited retail sales on the sales floor. The tentative opening date is May 18.
Mr and Mrs A E Kirkpatricks bought two Spruce street buildings from Mr and Mrs Don McLarrin. The frontage hosts Dutch Maid laundromat run by the Kirkpatricks with second floor apartments. The second building will house a Sears sales agency store. Hogan Realty announced the deal.
The Roy L Haudh Sons’ Corp of Salem installs a rock quarry on the Jimmy King ranch 40 miles from Myrtle Point. Houch company plans large crushing plant for Bureau of Public Roads, Forest Service, and private logging projects with 55 workers and 20 30 trucks, aiming to finish within six to eight weeks and by October.
Women of the area invited to a luncheon meeting at the Tioga hotel on Monday at noon of the Republican Womens club to discuss the county commissioners race. Guest speakers are William Miller of Coos Bay and Jack LaFlamme of Coquille. Miller seeks county commissioner and LaFlamme seeks county surveyor.
City Council approved summer sprinkling rates for the June 1 billing to address unseasonable dry weather. The rate is three cents lower per hundred cubic feet than production costs, with eight cents to produce water and a five cent summer rate. The measure may be lifted if substantial rain occurs.
The Public Utility Commissioner of Oregon schedules a 9:30 a.m. hearing Friday June 10 at the Myrtle Point city library. The hearing concerns Railway Express Agency petition to withdraw its Myrtle Point agency and remove its agent, noting no agent currently operates there and service has been limited after the Coquille station.
John Dayton of Schroeder's furniture store leaves Saturday from Portland by jet for a tour of the Zenith factory in Chicago. He will tour the factory Monday and the city Sunday before returning. Dayton’s expense paid trip follows growth in Schroeder's sales which have doubled in the recent period. Chamber members noted delivery has been a matter of periodic courtesy. Testimony on the petition will be heard June 10.
The Myrtle Hotel hosted a chamber luncheon where 15 officials viewed colored slides from a county parks tour. Milton Schroeder took the photos during an April 28 visit to sites including Lake Side boat ramp, Charleston small boat basin, Bastendorff Beach, Middle Creek Falls, Laverne Park, and Cherry Creek area with the Big Tree on BLM land.
Reymond Daniels, a freshman at Oregon State University, majors in mechanical arts instruction and earned grades that led to partial remission of fees and tuition for the spring term by the college.
Open house at the Baptist parsonage from 2 to 4 p.m. Sunday with Rev. and Mrs. Harold Backlund hosting the congregation. The parsonage was dedicated during the morning service and Mr and Mrs Bill Mullins were honored for their work in building it.
City officials and department heads plus their spouses attend the League of Oregon Cities regional meeting in Coos Bay May 11. Mayor Curt Beckham and several named officials will join a 7 30 p.m. dinner at the Courtel followed by a business session.
Jerry Brodie wins the student body presidency at Myrtle Point High, defeating Walt Hogan as the Brodie family gains a second consecutive term. Dan Mast, a sophomore, becomes vice president, with Phyllis Pillette elected secretary and Mike Anderson chosen sergeant at arms. Sheryl Huntley and Evelyn Be langer run unopposed for treasurer and parliamentarian.
Myrtle Point high school band toured Forest Grove on May 2 for an exchange concert following Forest Grove’s April 22 visit to MPHS. Repertoire included Three Choral Preludes Mighty Fortress Our God and Now the Day is Over. Stage numbers featured Lenny Meyer Ron Clark and Dennis Dayton on guitar and drums. Students traveled by two buses and were hosted by Forest Grove students before returning home.
Mr and Mrs James E Hatcher of Sutherlin acquire an oil company distributor. Patty Bryant of Myrtle Point, returning to her former home arrives with her family. The Hatchers have three children two girls and a boy.
Junior Prom will be held Saturday at Myrtle Crest gym with the Misty Moonlight theme. The dance features Zorba and the Greeks, a moonlit setting, and tickets at 3 dollars per couple on sale at noon at school this week.
High school trumpet player Dennis Dayton says he practices about an hour and a half nightly as he helps seven Oregon students compete in the state solo and ensemble contest held in Eugene last Saturday.
Four sophomores and one junior were elected to the 1906 07 Myrtle Point high school rally squad in last Wednesday's election. Sophomores elected for the varsity rally included Sigrid Mitchell Lana Bosco Georgie Boles and Sharon Wilson. Susan Huntley was the junior elected.
Funeral services conducted May 3 at Schroeder Brothers chapel Myrtle Point for John Thomas Royer lifelong resident who died April 20 1906 at 737 Kincheloe Lane. Survived by two sons Ervin A McMinnville and John W Bellingham Wash a daughter Mary Ann Martins Brookings Ore two brothers Earl Broadbent George Bridge Ira Myrtle Point two sisters Nellie Hammack Myrtle Pelat Zelma DillonGreedinks Ore five grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
