Oregon Liberalizes War Veterans Educational Benefits
Governor Holmes signed Senate bill 253 to expand state educational aid for veterans. The overhaul removes the Korean theater service requirement and lowers active duty need from six to three months, aligning with other benefits. World War II vets now have until June 30, 1959 to begin training, with a 90 day post-session qualification wait. The program, run by the Department of Veterans Affairs, applies to veterans who lived in Oregon before service and remain residents when applying.
