Valedictorian and Salutatorian Named at MPHS Class of 1968

Myrtle Point High School announces Carol Brister valedictorian and Carol Gassman salutatorian for the Class of 1968. Brister carries a 3 976 GPA through seven semesters and is active in NHS, French clubs, Rainbow, and Girls' League. Gassman has a 3 904 GPA, participates in Band and 4-H, and has held multiple offices. Both attended Oregon Girls' State and Project Prometheus in 1967.

Adams Wins State Elks Scholarship for Myrtle Point Senior

Eighth Grade Visitation Set for MPHS

Eighth grade students from Myrtle Crest and Bridge will visit MPHS on April 5 for the annual visitation day. They will take placement and aptitude tests in the morning and tour classes in the afternoon.

Donovan Begins Marine Training

Edwin Earl Donovan left March 22 from Portland to begin training with the US Marine Corps in San Diego. A 1967 Myrtle Point High School graduate, he married Lyn DeWald in October 1967 and they previously lived in Hillsboro.

Tanner Completes Marine Training

Private Michael P. Tanner of 735 Roseburg Road Myrtle Point Ore. completed eight weeks of recruit training at the Marine Corps Recruit Depot. He will undergo two to four weeks of individual combat training, then take leave and report to his first Marine Corps assignment.

Croft Files For Office In State Legislature

Croft, 46, associate professor at SWOCC, filed for State Representative for Coos and Curry counties at the Salem Secretary of State office before the March 19 deadline. A North Bend resident, he has long been active in the Democratic Party and civic groups, veteran of WWII, and holds degrees from the University of Oregon with extensive graduate work. He aims to improve social, economic, and political conditions in Coos and Curry counties.

Myrtle Point District Joins Northwest Regional Lab

The Myrtle Point School District joined the Northwest Regional Educational Laboratory after board approval. Superintendent Joe H. Stewart will coordinate cooperative activities. NWREL, a Portland based nonprofit, serves 800 members across Alaska, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington, with Oregon’s 260 members including the State Department of Education and local districts.
