In early naval service weeks he studied military subjects and trained under veteran petty officers. He learned seamanship and techniques, drill, and other subjects to ease the transition from civilian life to naval life aboard his first ship.
Maggie Karl a well known Coos Bay artist and teacher will lead two art classes this spring term at the Coquille old Tire Hall starting March 27 Registration is at the first class meeting The Drawing Class meets Wednesday mornings from 9 to 12 No prior art training is required and the fee is $12 The Old Fire Hall has been redecorated with new shelves and cabinets for students to use and visitors may drop in on Wednesdays to see how the class operates.
Southwestern Oregon Community College announces a 10 week typing clinic at Coquille High School from March 26 to June 6. Mrs. Jacqueline Morton will teach Tuesday and Thursday evenings 7 30 to 9 30 p.m. The course costs 8 38 plus 83 75 for a text. The program targets beginners and returning students, focusing on touch typing, machine parts, speed and accuracy, and letter styles and tabulation with an adult designed text.
After hours entries list Dan Rowley fined 25 dollars and a minor in intoxicated condition fined 50.90. Richard James found not guilty on an exclusive poise charge. William Hermann and Wayne Carpenter listed as minors in possession with forfeitures of 25 dollars. Don Lewis charged with destruction of private property resulted in a 50 dollar forfeiture.
The council created district 15 with an estimated $32,000 cost for asphaltic concrete paving on existing streets. Costs to property owners will vary by width, not exceed 82.50 per running foot. Bids planned April 15 for about 2,600 tons.
A Pacific Power & Light irrigation specialist will speak on recent developments in agricultural sprinkler irrigation from 2 to 4 p.m. March 27 at the PPKL office in Coqville. Ralph Reid, a graduate agricultural engineer, will discuss methods to boost production with electric sprinkler systems. The session, open to all interested, will cover a wide range of sprinkler irrigation topics.
Judson Baptist College choir of thirty five voices from Portland will give a secret concert at Myrtle Point Baptist Church on March 23 at 7 30 p m. Public invited. Choir director is Sanford Lind.
Mary Anne Greenland, SWOCC home economics instructor, will teach four sewing classes in the Coquille Myrtle Point area spring term. Classes meet at Pioneer Methodist Church in Coquille and St Marks Episcopal Church in Myrtle Point. A six week fabrics workshop runs Thursday evenings in Coquille from 7 to 9. Learn knit shell and suit construction, sweaters, swimwear and slacks with a $6 fee beginning March 28. Basic Fitting and Shirtmaking offered Thursday mornings in Myrtle Point with a $12 fee. pattern alteration and garment fitting included. Tailoring a suit starts in April on Mondays in Coquille for $12. Basic Clothing Construction and Basic Fitting and Shirtmaking require prerequisites. Children’s Clothing Construction begins March 26 in Coquille for $12 with several garment and trimming techniques.
Registration for the annual hunter training courses will be held Wednesday night March 27 at 7 00 p m at the high school. All students must register before attending class. Classes begin Wednesday April 3 at 7 00 p m in the high school with four sessions lasting 1 5 hours each.
School District 41 held a budget hearing March 11 for the 1966 69 budget. Motion by Gerald Lilie to adopt the budget as approved, with a reduction of 85 000 in fixed costs to balance the budget, and an addition of 75 268 for estimated uncollected taxes and rebates.
