Methodist Building Crusade Victory Service Set in Myrtle Point

A victory service is planned for Sunday March 31 at 11 am at First Methodist Church Myrtle Point. Members will bring cash gifts and two year pledges toward a 20000 to 25000 dollar building fund. Crusade visitors will call on attenders homes that afternoon to collect gifts and pledges toward the total.

Chevron Charlie Wileon assumed operation of the service station at 415 8th Street after a Sitkum logging accident injured Mr. Wilson. Mrs. Wilson works at Security Bank. former operator Bob Paul now runs a business in North Bend.

Petitions Due For School Board Election

Petitions to nominate candidates for District 41 school board must be filed in the district office before April. The annual election is May 6. Petitions for city and county seats expire in June. Local attendance committee members will be elected by June 6.

Planters Warned After Dwarfed Spruce Thefts

Police warn the public to stop pulling newly planted dwarf Alpine spruce trees from concrete planters downtown. Since installation by the Myrtle Point Garden Club six trees have been damaged or uprooted. Officers will arrest offenders with a maximum $200 fine and up to 150 days in jail.

Legion Theft Reported at Ameri can Legion Building

City police and sheriff's officers investigate the theft of two cases of whiskey from the American Legion building on March 17 between 5 a.m. and noon. The building was entry through the east door, unlocked, with the liquor cabinet padlock forced and the door open prompting an inventory showing missing cases.

School District Plans Building and Curriculum Survey

A preliminary survey of all district school buildings is underway led by Superintendent Joe Stewart. The study aims to align curriculum with space needs and explore three expansion options including three or four grade high school configurations to reduce crowded conditions.
