The Herald received word Monday of the death of Dr. A Theo Smith former pastor of the Presbyterian church in our area. He died at his home in Tigard Oregon after mowing the lawn and suffering a heart attack. Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 30 p m at Finley Mortuary in Portland. He served as pastor here for about 80 years and retired from active church work. He was a pioneer preacher and leaves many friends mourn his passing.

He lauded global Lionism growth, noted three million glasses sent abroad and a worldwide membership of 604000. Deputy district governor Mike McLain from Roseburg also attended.
City official Al Albertson says the Parks and Recreation Committee meeting, first held February 19 at City Hall, was postponed to Wednesday evening March 30 due to low attendance. The council chambers date is hoped to mobilize citizen action at the earliest possible time.

Jim Thomas and Tom Curry lead with 11 and 4 points respectively as Myrtle Point overturns a 30 21 halftime deficit. Vale top scorers Turner 8 Johnson 7 Wilcox 12 provide late challenge but Myrtle Point holds on after Dornath sprains ankle and Mast fouls out.
Edgar Pillette of Bridge claimed the top score 224 of 250 at a Sunday trap shoot hosted by the Myrtle Point Sportsmen's Club and Gold Beach. The M P S club edged Gold Beach by seven targets to win the contest and take the trophy displayed in the Herald Press window.
Geranna Stevens of Myrtle Point, a junior sociology major at Willamette University in Salem, earned a straight-A fall semester average to qualify for the four-point honor roll. She is the daughter of Mr and Mrs S F Stevens and a 1957 Myrtle Point Union High School graduate.
The Myrtle Hotel Coffee Shop reopens after extensive modernization. Open daily 6 am to 11 pm under Don Wagoner, with a fully electric kitchen, new turquoise booths, bilge Formica paneling, two-tone brown floors, and upgraded dining and private banquet areas. Local chef George Dial’s son leads kitchen duties.
