Myrtle Point Troop 18 Bob White patrol won the Marshfield contest last evening against patrols from Marshfield North Bend and Gardiner with 89.2 percent. Scouts Jay Schriefer Cyri Osarver Eldon Thompson Jean Pressler Robert Fensler and Elton Schroeder led the team under Scoutmaster Elton Schroeder. A Kiwanis plaque awarded by Marshfield will become Troop 18’s permanent possession.

Robert Marias of Smith River California visited this week and purchased six Jersey calves at E L Clausen dairy ranch to add to his home herd. He is a Del Norte fair board member known locally. The fair board plans a sale the first week in July and Marias offered Deen and Curry county fair boards a free seat in Crescent City parade as advertising.

Mrs Emmett Taken to Salem Hospital for Mental Evaluation
Dora Emmett, held in Coquille jail on an assault charge against her Eden valley teacher husband, was sent to the state hospital in Salem early this week as authorities deem her mentally ill. Mr Emmett remains a patient at the Mast hospital but has regained consciousness. His 87 year old mother in Salem visited him early this week.

The National Better Homes in America program designates April 27 to May 3 for housing improvement effort. Local Boy Austin Dodge to Lead Oregon State Band in Myrtle Point
Austin G Dodge son of Mr and Mrs E A Dodge will lead the Oregon State military band in a Myrtle Point concert at the high school Monday March 24 at 730 p m. A parade through the business district at 430 p m precedes the show, followed by a dance at Oaks Pavilion. The band of 75 to 80 members with an eight piece dance orchestra has strong leadership under Captain H L Beard who has directed the group 26 years. The trip includes stays at the Myrtle Hotel and a departure for Coquille next morning.

Kermit and Everett Hayes returned Tuesday night from an eight day hunting trip above Plowers on Johnson creek bringing four cougar hides. One hide measured nine and a half feet while the others were smaller. The boys expect $140 total as each hide brings $35, aided by two dogs.
