The Myrtle Point Bobcats earned second in Coos county standings by beating Coquille 26 to 24 in the opening game of the final series in North Bend. North Bend dominated with 85 to 18 over Marshfield and 46 to 24 over Myrtle Point. North Bend will represent Coos county in the district finals at Ashland, with a chance at the state meet in Salem. Marshfield took third by defeating Coquille 87 to 22 in the consolation.

Women Offered Drafting Training At Oregon State College
Oregon State College announces a three month drafting course for women high school graduates aged 18 or older. Under Boeing Aircraft Co Seattle sponsorship and a U S Office of Education program, participants will be paid 75 dollars monthly and may advance to Boeing’s Seattle plant. Up to three women may enroll starting mid March, with completion leading to engineering or drafting roles at Boeing with existing pay scales.

Enrollment rose from 311 at the first report to 336 by February, contrasting with a decline last year. The War Bond sales totaled 5062.80 for the year, averaging about 231 weekly. The junior high basketball team lost 31 to 29 to Marshfield. The school board re elected the current Myrtle Point grade school teaching staff. A new salary schedule has not been adopted. A special assembly is planned for March 8 at 1 pm in the junior high auditorium to view three technicolor films from Western Cartridge Company titled The Land Pays Off So Say Socko and Canadian Trails. all are welcome.

Van Fossen Funeral Held for Local Resident
Funeral services for Robert L. Van Fossen aged 59 were held Sunday at 2:00 p.m. in the Schroeder Funeral chapel. Rev. Marion Stern officiated and burial followed at Coquille Masonic Cemetery. Survivors include two sons Clifford and Robert, a daughter Mrs. Daisy Kelly, his parents Mr. and Mrs. Levi Van Fossen, six brothers Walter Chester Jess Theodore Willis Sid and one sister Mrs. Daisy Brill.
