Federal funding approves three district programs including a two part reading initiative for grades 1 4 with summer corrective reading a reduced counselor workload and extended elementary guidance a cultural program sending 105 high school students to the Shakespeare Festival in Ashland for two days with two plays and $18 823 20 covers all expenses.
Myrtle Point fought back from an 11 point deficit to edge Brookings 68-66 as Steve Ray scored 21 and Dennis Dayton added 14. The following night the Bobcats led Bandon late but fell 55-54 with Ray totaling 31 points, marking a 30 plus night for a Myrtle Point hoopster.
More than 200 attendees are slated for the sth annual Power Use Conference of the Bonneville Power Administration March 8 and 9 at the Sheraton Motor Inn in Portland. Expected participants include Ivan Laird Coos-Curry Co op president W A Cook manager Don Coykendall power use advisor and several district managers from the Coos-Curry area.
Plans are underway for a April 1 3 gala County Fair and car nival at Pony Village in North Bend. Ver tn Hermann Myrtle Point and Arnold Morton Coquille co chair the county fund raising drive for the Oregon Museum of Science and Industry Agricultural Hall construction. Coos county FFA 4 H members Lead ers association Farm Bureau Grange Dairy Wives and local bands and firms join the drive.
Women's volleyball evenings are set for every Wednesday at 7 30 pm in the Maple Primary School gymnasium. Mrs E E Evernden announces open play for women of all ages inviting participation.

Tom Coffman outlined a plan to close Broadbent School by 1967 68 or expand and reorganize classes to fill Spruce School. He estimates saving 43000 to 45000 to fund new classrooms. A committee chaired by Howard Winkelman was appointed to study the proposal and meet March 9. Lovella Noden was offered a special education teaching contract. she graduates March 11 and plans to marry March 12.
The Coos County Fair board proposes a 100 by 108 foot two story structure to replace the old building. It will add 25 commercial booths, more restrooms, and a Fair office. Entries close Aug 15 except livestock. fair runs Aug 17 to 21. Christensen Bros Rodeo and Wild Horse Show set for home night. Loggers Shodeo moved to Saturday. new directors Glen Gulstrom and Tom O'Dwyer replace Dick Johnson and John Van Calar. Next meeting April 5 in Bandon.
Coos Extension Agent Fred Hagelstein reports that cows enrolled in the Dairy Herd Improvement Association test at the IBM Computing Center in Pullman and across Southwest Oregon produced an average 9,726 pounds of milk and 463 pounds of fat in 1965. This compares with 9,005 pounds of milk and 464 pounds of fat in 1964, with nearly 2400 cows in the Coos DHIA program.
Arago Community church announces its third annual missionary conference running through March 6. Evening services start at 7 30 p m and Sunday worship at 11 a m Roy Brill will represent Africa Inland Mission and Angeles Hebrew Mission Bob Rayburn will represent Village Missions. Everyone is invited to attend.
SWOCC offers spring term sewing courses in Coquille and Myrtle Point with a $13 fee. Children’s Clothing meets Tuesdays 9:30 to 12:30, Tailoring a suit runs Tuesdays 1 to 4 at Metodiet church in Coquille, and Advanced Dressmaking has two sections in both towns on Thursdays at local churches. Word reached here Tuesday of the death of Mrs. Tom Freda Howe at her home in Lodi California. She had lived in Myrtle Point and Coquille before moving to Lodi four years ago. Survived by husband, Richard of Lodi. daughter Linda Morse of Tucson. one grandchild. sister Mrs John Koch of Bridge. brothers Leonard Watson Grants Pass Lloyd Watson Lawrence Watson and Lyle Watson Grants Pass. Funeral set for Friday morning in Lodi. Attendees include John Koch and Leonard Watson arriving Thursday.
Trapshooters from Coos Bay Roseburg and Eugene joined Sunday events at several clubs. 8300 clay targets were fired with George Sherwood Roseburg 2333 top, A R McAlexander 227, Delmar Jeske Eugene 225. Myrtle Point beat Gold Beach 442 to 408 to claim the inter club trophy and plans a return shoot March 13. Elks club hours announced 12 noon Tue Fri and 10 am weekends. Golf course remains open as usual.
