The V F W and Auxiliary of Lee Ray post 2928 hosted a Saturday oyster supper with an open meeting. Five Auxiliary members were initiated and Roseburg drill team initiated 12 for the post. Dancing followed, and a myrtle wood end table was awarded to a Roseburg lady. notable guests included Nira Blanche Boyer and Ward Cummings.
After the regular chapter meeting in Odd Fellows hall 24 Rebekahs stayed for a social with songs games and a lunch of songwiches salad and coffee served at the close
The Myrtle Point Lions met last Thursday to elect officers for the coming year. JL Powers was named president with May Hackman as first vice president and P W Culver as second vice president. PE Roper was treasurer, John Belloni Lion tamer, and Austin Dodge secretary. P O Lund managed the hotel and attended as honored guest. Wallace Dement presided in the president’s absence and a five member committee was appointed to confer with the American Legion to secure the Strong building for a dance hall. Initiation of new members planned for the next meeting.
The county grand jury met at the circuit court with multiple cases. Alvin H Barnes, 24, pled guilty to larceny in a dwelling and received one year in the state penitentiary. Other defendants faced charges of larceny by bailee, drunken driving, cruelty to animals, and public intoxication, with sentences ranging from 30 days to 80 days and fines up to 100 dollars. Francis W Barnes, 14, linked to the larceny case, is held for juvenile court.
OFFERS LAND county proposes cash sales of 3 and 4 acre tracts in section 31 at about 3100 dollars. A buyer named Loula W. Mrs O H Clarke hosts a Saturday recital in the former Bank of Myrtle Point building at 2 30 PM featuring younger pupils Patty Jo Druliner Ernest Davenport Helenor Gurney Wendell Hall Stevens Byron Van Alsten Faye Johnson Mary Frances Sullivan Thelma Robison and a rhythm orchestra with Dorothy Bender singing The event invites public attendance Older pupils to perform later for a St Patrick s Day recital.
The Myrtle Point High School Home Economics club presented a program on better homes to the Woman's Club after their business session on Monday February 26. The event featured a series of skits and a one act play The Marriage Shop with local students in the cast. Over 100 attended and $3 was donated to the scholarship loan fund while local officials spoke on the sales tax.
The Coos county Democratic gathering is set for Saturday at the Coquille hotel. John D. Goss is expected to announce his candidacy for representative to Congress from Oregon’s first district and will be the lead speaker outlining his platform. Local speakers from each Coos city will give brief talks followed by a central committee meeting after a 6:45 dinner.
A unit meeting is held at the Methodist church this evening. A 6 39 potluck dinner will be served followed by games and social time.
Mr and Mrs eine hosted a week long dinner party at their North Fork residence. Guests at 7 o clock included Mr and Mrs Ralph Kring Mr and Mrs Henry Roslow Mr and Mrs George Mallard host and hostess and Mr and Mrs Henry Miller.
Myrtle Point coach Pat Rickard’s Bobcats lost 38 to 25 to Marshfield’s Black Raiders last Thursday. Ostrander out with flu, but Myrtle Point showed grit and scrapped hard as Druliner starred for the locals and the Hansen brothers led Marshfield’s charge.
Powers Loggers defeated Arago with a 18 to 4 victory as Rolfe and Geizsler led a hot passing attack. Arago’s Sinko and Collier scored all points for the home team in a slump plagued season, while Powers’ lineup included Gamwell Newton Sainte Hubbard Lewellyn and Shepherd. In a preliminary, Arago Pup’s second string fell to Powers 1 to 14 after a close first quarter.
Mr and Mrs A M Sunstrup returned Friday from a stay in Portland and Corvallis. Mrs A C Chase visited Eugene to see daughter Margaret at the University. Marguerite Sunstrup attended the Butter and Ice Cream Makers convention in Corvallis and won first prize in the butter judging contest earning a silver pitcher bowl and tray. Sunstrup remained overnight in Corvallis and stayed with a friend from eastern Oregon. A larger attendance than in recent years was reported at last week’s meet.
Mrs. Cora Barklow and daughters Stella and Opal travel the territory in support of the Royal Neighbors of America. Barklow serves as deputy for Lane county with Opal as chief organizer for Benton Polk and Marion counties. They perform March 5 and 6 at 8 p m with local musicians, featuring Hawaiian and negro songs, followed by supper.
The Myrtle Point Union high school board visited the campus on Wednesday. Home class girls served a delicious lunch at noon, providing a warm welcome for the visitors.
Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce mails invitations to independent and CCC teams for a March 6 7 event. Osks pavilion provided by the Fair board for the tournament with five teams from each group to compete. Public admission charged to cover costs and fund a silver cup for the winner. Each entering team pays a fee.
State representative J Ar McCloskey of Coos County filed for the Democratic nomination for another term. Elected first in 1932, he touts a lengthy legislative record and a strong chance to win. Cons County residents can be proud of his representation.
Marshfield faces Myrtle Point in a pivotal county matchup with Myrtle Point favored to clinch the title if they win. Marshfield plans a stronger offense and aims to disrupt Myrtle Point’s defense while North Bend and Marshfield both hover near top standings. The outcome could decide the championship, with risks of a three way tie if other results go against them.
The Coos County Federation of Woman's clubs will convene in Marah Ueld tomorrow March 2. An invitation extends to all county women’s organizations to attend. The meeting starts at 10 o clock with speeches by John Cook president of the Coast Highway Association and Cook County Health Association. A no host luncheon at the Chandler hotel follows at noon and a tea will be provided for visitors.
