Registration for Myrtle Point area youth swimming lessons is today 2 5 p.m. and Saturday 9 a.m. to 12 noon at city hall. Classes run July 6 to July 17 with transport to Coquille, cost 4 dollars per child, and include divisions for advanced beginner to intermediate boys and girls with morning and early afternoon times.
Twenty one candidates contend for the 1970 Coos County Fair queen title with Myrtle Point entrants among them. Friday and Saturday eliminations include personal interviews and 1 p.m. speeches on the topic key to success. From six finalists three will advance to Aug 16 events. State Senator Sam Dement will crown the queen at the Queen's Ball.
Myrtle Point High School students will travel to Ashland to view two plays Comedy of Errors and Julius Caesar funded by federal funds. The group departs at 12 noon from the high school with an orientation session scheduled for Monday June 29 in the afternoon. Students unable to attend should contact M Gail Smith at 78-2006.
The District 41 school board awarded a 30 passenger bus chassis to Lounsbury Ford of Coquille for 3,678.50 and bluebird body work to Crown Truck and Equipment Co. for 8,691.50 FOB factory or 8,190 FOB Myrtle Point. The board also accepted Ar tl Motz’s resignation as Myrtle Point principal and adopted a new conduct code with clearer penalties. Jimmie King reported 68 students enrolled in remedial reading summer classes.
The Southwestern Oregon Rabbit Breeders Association schedules its first annual Rabbit Show for Saturday and Sunday at the Coos County Fairgrounds Myrtle Point. Judging begins at noon Saturday. event sanctioned by ARBA and the American Dutch Rabbit Club with trophies prizes and senior junior awards. Entry fees 50 cents open 25 cents junior 50 cents fur classes. Contact Southwestern Oregon Rabbit Breeders Association 734 Roseburg Rd Myrtle Point.
VFW Post 2928 calls on local merchants to renew contracts for the flag program. The VFW, via the Boy Scouts, places American flags in front of stores at Mystic Point on selected days to recognize merchant support in past years.
The data shows daily high and low temperatures with dates from June 17 to June 23. Readings include highs near 78 to 81 and lows from 45 to 56, with June 18 marked as no reading.
Myrtle Point hosts its seventh annual Antique Car Show this Saturday on Spruce Street between Fourth and Sixth. Cars from nearby areas join locals in three restoration divisions with a sweepstakes trophy for the top entry. Hill climb starts at 2 a.m. with awards at 3 p.m. Lunch and Swiss steak feed follow for car owners and chamber members.
Myrtle Point High School announced the fourth nine weeks honor roll for the 1969 70 year. Class of 1973 1972 1971 and 1970 honor rolls list numerous students with grade point averages, followed by an incident report: Jimmie Wolley from Myrtle Point was hospitalized in Keizer Memorial Hospital after a stabbing at 822 Willow Street. police have not released the assailant's name.
Vernon Barklow of Myrtle Point built a wooden cross for Buellton Bible Church after seeing his granddaughters Janice and Jerri and Billie Church, who inspired the project during a Sunday service. The cross was presented by the three girls, a gift to the church on Zaca Street. The Barklow family moved from Oregon in January 1969 and the girls attend local schools.
