Miss Ernestine Schneider daughter of Mr and Mrs J Schneider of Milahe and Oran D Keeler son of Mr and Mrs Floyd H Keeler of Leipsic Ohio wed in Portland Episcopal church with Rev F G Jennings officiating. The couple planned a short wedding trip then home to Perkins apartments.
Elton Schroeder was elected district governor of Oregon Lions 36-E at the state Lions convention in Salem. Wendy MN, a charter member of the Point Lions, helped inaugurate the new governing council structure replacing the state central office and secretary. Delegates from Myrtle Point included J M Meiskey and B E Sempert, with the 1840 Marshfield convention planned for next year.
Survey work aims to value ore deposits and settle staking legality for Johnson Creek district. Butcher Gulch on South Sixes draws attention as a favored site with expected summer work. Joe and Mika Slankovich, Poverty Creek interests, inspect holdings for possible operations. Elgin Creek shows a promising blanket vein with free gold values.
The city council met Monday with out quorum delaying business. The next meeting is scheduled for June 26.
Nan and Bra Harrison plan a trip to Santa Barbara for a veterinary convention then San Francisco World Fair before heading to Reno. Forrest Moon, Zella Eugene, and Mrs Parker visit. many locals host or visit relatives in Oregon and California including Bird, Moyle Springs, Marshfield, and Florence.
A group of friends hosted by Mr and Mrs Charles Swigart in West Norway on Monday evening welcomed them back from a three day trip to Washington. Attendees included Charles Stump Raymond Garrone Leon Garrone Virginia King Robert King Amelia Arises Fred Lafferty Kenneth Button Ser Lee Moward Caudle and others from West Norway Myrtle Point and nearby areas. The couple Swigart and Swigart plan to make their home in West Norway.
The final playoff of the match play handicap golf tournament concluded Sunday with Elmer Knight winning first place and Frank Larsen second. Winners from Myrtle Point included Knight, Larsen, and other top finishers. Crescent City country club defeated Coquille by eight points in a club competition.
George Laney Parrish aged 54 of Myrtle Point died Tuesday in Eugene after nine months ill health. Born September 16, 1864 in Bald Hill district he lived on the north fork all his life. Survived by wife Julia Miller Parrish four children Harley Russell Ray Cora Parrish and four brothers Robert Bald Hill Perry Broadbent Oscar Jamzy. funeral held at Schroeder Funeral Home with burial at Norway cemetery. Local friends mourn deeply for the longtime neighbor.
Mr and Mrs Herman Dickson of Bancroft display three pictures at the office as their turkeys approach seven weeks in age. In 1937 they raised 2000 Bronze and 1938 2800 Narragansett birds. Bronze turkeys at 19 weeks weigh about 20 to 25 pounds, and this year they have raised 8000 with plans for 2080 more before the holidays. Kurtz of the ranch rents the flock on a percentage basis and visits from Portland occur about twice monthly, with a July 4 arrival hoped.
Marriage of Bert Mead of Reuben Idaho to Gardiner of Bangus took place in Vancouver Washington Friday June 16 1938. Mead a longtime Coos County figure later served as jailer under sheriff Howell after moving through North Bend Empire Myrtle Point and Sitkum before taking the jailer post which he has held since.
Miss Kathryn Hamilton a former Myrtle Point resident and WSC and Kinman School alumna will wed June 25 1938 in California to Resere Kantner of Oakland The ceremony follows her return to Washington where Kantner coaches basketball baseball and track Hamilton daughter of Mr and Mrs George Hamilton former editors of the paper will have her sister Mrs H C Hamilton of Portland as matron of honor and Myrtle Point friends will serve at the reception
