Principal William Richardson announced the fourth nine weeks honor roll at Myrtle Point High. The list includes seniors, juniors, sophomores, fishman, and freshmen with numerous students named on honor roll and honorable mention across multiple grades and GPA levels.
Fores Supervisor William P. Ronayne announces a draft environmental statement for the Rogue Planning Unit in Siskiyou National Forest Oregon prepared under the National Environmental Policy Act. Copies for inspection are listed at multiple offices and libraries. Oregon Coastal Commission to meet June 21 in Florence to discuss preliminary coastal resource policies.
Public notices list regular meetings for local bodies. Items include Myrtle Point City Council first and third Mondays at council chambers and city hall, Port of Coquille River Commission third Tuesday, Myrtle Point District 41 School Board second and fourth Mondays at 8 pm, Myrtle Point Planning Commission second Monday at 7 30 pm, Myrtle Point Library Board regular meetings Tuesdays through Fridays at Flora M. Laird Memorial Library.
Red Cross water safety program opens with 91 registered students. Buses shuttle swimmers from Myrtle Point Maple Primary to Coquille pool with pick up and drop off in Myrtle Point. Cost is 4.00 per child, few spots remain. sign up now. Schedule lists four sessions with age groups and times for lessons and bus runs.

Curry County will dedicate the interim Historical Museum at the fairgrounds in Gold Beach on Sunday afternoon June 23. Dr. Stephen Dow Beckham of Linfield College will speak and share anecdotes from Tall Tales from Rogue River and discuss preserving America’s heritage. Pioneers of the Month will be honored and an autograph party will follow Beckham’s talk.
Local selective service boards in Coos and Curry counties urge 18 year olds to register for the draft though no inductions are underway. A 60 day window opens 30 days before the birthday and runs 29 days after. Registrations can be completed at the county office or with designated personnel in Brookings, Gold Beach, Powers, Myrtle Point.
The Myrtle Point area forms the Myrtle Point Concerned Citizens a new non commercial non sectarian non partisan group. A first meeting is set for next Tuesday at 7 10 p m at Myrtle Point High School with an initial steering committee and by law work underway. Dues are 50 cents per person annually and general meetings occur the fourth Tuesday each month at 7 40 p m at the high school.
Tana Laird 19 of Coos Bay was crowned Coos County Fair queen Saturday night at the Fairgrounds dance pavilion by outgoing queen Shirin Wahoomai. She will reign over the Aug 14 fair. Princesses Debbie Lockhart and Sherri Smith join the court. Lockhart won Miss Congeniality. Laird, a Marshfield High School graduate, works at Western Bank and attends Southwestern Oregon Community College.
SWOCC announces orientation sessions for prospective fall term students to plan schedules and complete registration. About 20 sessions are scheduled June through August with morning, afternoon, and evening options and require placement tests beforehand. Students must sign up a week in advance by calling the Office of Student Services.
