Atomic power to surpass water energy in 50 years predicts Grange
State Grange Master Elmer McClure told the Oregon State Grange opening that by 2,000 the Pacific Northwest may rely mainly on atomic electricity, forecasting 90 million kilowatts annually. He urged maintaining public ownership of atomic energy and noted a $12 billion national research investment. A class of 700 candidates was initiated. Installation for 1954 55 will be held Friday.

August Henry Bender Pioneer Died At 77
August Henry Bender 77 native of Myrtle Point died Sunday evening at Mast hospital after a lingering illness. Funeral services were held Tuesday at 2 p.m. in Schroeder chapel with Rev Edw McClurg. interment in Myrtle Point cemetery with Odd Fellows in charge. Born August 2 1877 he was the eldest son of Edward and Nellie Bender and long a postal employee from 1895 to 1948 in Myrtle Point Coquille and Broadbent. He married Ada E Schroder October 27 1904. children Ellsworth Salem Edward Sutherlin and Dorothy Haga Bandon. One brother Dr C L Bender Seaside survives.
