Telegrams report Gussie Jewett, paratrooper, missing in action over Italy since May. Other notices from Myrtle Point list soldiers and sailors in transit or posted to hospitals, with letters from Africa and the South Pacific. The manuscript discusses butterfat content limited by law to 16 percent moisture and acidity around 0.14 percent lactic acid. It notes finished Wisconsin curd, Methylene Blue tests, and varied pasteurization practices, with emphasis on quality milk and strict producer standards.
Several residents reported hearing a radio announcement at noon about United States planes over the mainland of Japan. No details or official confirmation were available at press time.
The Gravel Ford Cheese Factory moved from Gravel Ford to Myrtle Point on Spruce street near Roseburg road and now processes about 36 000 pounds of milk daily. It makes Cheddar for government lead related purposes, with normal output at 4 000 pounds daily, and also supplies Broadbent Creamery. Nine workers, two milk pickup trucks, and a private hauler support operations. Rumiano Bros of Willows California bought the plant from W J DeBoer last October and moved it, adding new equipment. the building was recently painted by Lloyd Huntley and a flash pasteurizing machine was installed to pasteurize milk almost instantly.
William Henry Wise aged 17 of Powers died at Kelzer hospital in North Bend after being brought there a week earlier. Funeral services were held at Campbell funeral home in Marshfield, and graveside services at Norway cemetery. He had lived in Caps county for over 50 years and was the son of the late Peter Wise, longtime Myrtle Point blacksmith. Surviving relatives include three sons, two daughters, a brother, three sisters, 11 grandchildren, and one great grandchild.
Mrs. Wooley 80 died Monday at the home of her granddaughter Mrs. T E Hagan in Myrtle Point. Funeral plans await arrival of grandson George Wooley from an eastern military base. Born September 20 1868 in St Louis Missouri she had lived in Myrtle Point since October 1940. Survivors include son Charles Wooley Auburn California daughter Etta Augustine Morefeld Nebraska grandson George Wooley in service and granddaughter Mrs Z E Hazen Myrtle Point. Also noted is the purchase of the Warren Deyoe property at the corner of Second and Maple Streets by Mr and Mrs Don Gilkison.
Official telegram from the War Department dated June 7 states Lt. Sgt. Elmer A Rowan formerly of Myrtle Point was killed in action over Biak Island in the South Pacific in May. He served with a bomber group of the U S Air Forces and had been in the South Pacific for some time. He leaves a wife and a year-old baby. no further details on his death have been received.
A city library expands its summer reading options with new books for all ages. The list includes adult fiction titles by Hawkins and Kocsak and non fiction works about war, history, and thinking, with two week checkouts and no library card required.
Coos county 4-H club members prepare to exhibit at the fair September 1 2 8 and 4 with state exhibits and contests resuming after wartime suspension. State events will be at Meier & Franks Portland October sti to 18 featuring Clothing Cooking Homemaking Canning Gardening Forestry and Woodworking plus contests in Poster Safety Activity Style Revue Dairy Consumption and more. County winners advance to state.
Several services were held at the Church of the Brethren in Myrtle Point for Henry Ry Brown 81 who died at his home. Rev Marion Stern conducted the service and interment followed at the Norway Cemetery. Brown was born in Polk County West Virginia on January 19 186? and lived in Colorado before moving to Coos County in 1889. He spent 85 years in Washington before returning to Coos 19 years ago. He married Anna Keller in Colorado on June 10. Surviving are one son E Roy Brown of Honolulu seven brothers one sister and three grandchildren Lloyd Maat of Myrtle Point. Vialts Mother Mrs Al Miller and daughter Corinne Ann are visiting from Marshfield. Mrs Elisabeth Hamm from Portland is visiting her mother Mrs Anna McNair and her son David McNair.
The drive for sale of E bonds continues in Coos County with a July target. Merion, chairman of the committee, heads Myrtle Point efforts as $12,500 in E bonds are allotted for the district. Security Bank and estate offices report strong voluntary sales totaling several thousand dollars this week.
County officials outline a five year post war road program costing 877682 with projects including gravel roads resurfacing new bridges and road widening funded by taxes gas revenues and timber funds. Roadmaster F N Robb explains a zoned maintenance system and federal match plans while noting readiness of 60 to 90 percent of the program by 1948 and 1946.

She will train at Hunter College for six weeks before advanced schooling or Navy shore assignment. During the year she directed and produced several plays at the local high school.
