High School Cannery Set for Operation and Demos
The Union High School cannery project, run with the division of Vocational Education and the Myrtle Point Lions club, prepares for operation. Over 700 dollars of new equipment, including a steam jacket kettle and electric sealers, upgrades the facility. Demonstrations will teach proper canning, with a 7 cent per can cost for standard canning and 5 cents for full service. Last year 38,000 cans, totaling 30,000 quarts, were processed for Coos County residents.

Two Loggers Injured at Powers
Two loggers were injured Tuesday evening about 7 15 at the Powers loading dump when a log rolled from a dumping truck and struck them. Both were rushed to Myrtle Point hospital with Schroeder and Powers ambulances aiding. Newton suffered a broken shoulder and leg while Charley Brown had cuts and bruises from the falling log.

Country Club Set to Reopen This Saturday
The Coquilleva Country Club will reopen the golf course on Saturday after a four month closure. The grounds and clubhouse are leased for a year from Mr and Mrs L J Maloney who ran it for five years, with Mr and Mrs Pat McLarrin of Coquille as managers. Membership is set at 25 annually to support operations and attract at least 30 paid members. Officers elected include Theodore Clinton as president and John Arnold as vice president along with several directors.

Funeral for Mrs. Grant Willard in Myrtle Point
Mrs. Grant Willard 75 died and funeral services were held Saturday at Schroeder funeral chapel Myrtle Point with interment in Norway cemetery. Born October 3 1860 in West Newton Pennsylvania she married Grant Willard May 1 1888 and they moved to Oregon in 1933. Survivors include her husband two daughters Amy Mather and Estella Wiseman both of Kansas and son Roy Willard of California. She was a Methodist and Townsend club member.
