Delegates from Myrtle Point Senior club, Mrs. Paul and Mrs. T G Summeriin, shared a wonderful trip and new ideas. The convention ended Friday at 11 o clock. next gathering will be in Pendiston. Grace H closed the day’s program.

Coos teachers plan to attend a national education segregation meeting in Portland from June 28 to July. An estimated 12,000 official delegates will register with about a thousand supporters also present in Portland. Readable fragments list names including Ellisen Bridge Cora Mackey Roy Moore Hartley Phyllis Halt Geckos Ruth Bevers Clarence Speakon Esthey Stahl and others.
Sitkum CCC boy Stephen Dubas suffered a ruptured appendix while eight miles up Lost Creek trail. Lieutenant Yotz and three camp boys carried him on a stretcher through a brushy, steep route to a road where a ride to Coquille hospital arrived by midnight. He underwent immediate surgery and has a slim chance of recovery.
Funeral services were held at 2pm Sunday June 7 at Schroeder Funeral Home in Myrtle Point for William Thomas Warner 69 of Broadbent who died June 4 1936 after a goiter operation. Rev Charles Barklow led the rites and interment was at Norway cemetery. Born June 10 1868 in Broadbent he spent his life in the dairy business. He married Phena Parry February 24 1885 and they had five children all living. Surviving are his widow five children five brothers and one sister and five grandchildren.
The May library report shows adults reading 800 books and 314 by children, with 21 state books and 1135 total books in circulation. Magazines loaned 188 and 205 new application cards. fines bring in $5.84 and rentals $5.16 for a total of $1.19. Several new books listed include The Thinking Reed West, Son of Marletts Fabricius, South Riding Holtby, The Roofs of Elm Street McNally, Sart, rman Child Hauck, Matched Pearls Hill, A Certain Cross Road Liring, The Sparken Broke Morgan, Woman In Love Norris, Anne Marries Again Rinehart.
A wave of June weddings is reported with multiple couples from Marshfield North Bend Coquille and nearby areas tying the knot. Ceremonies performed by ministers at homes churches and parishes include Eduardite Blomquist with Alice Huntington and Edwin Bement with Arnte Dollay. Licenses issued include Ted Perry Grace Crane Ralph Woodring Laurine Morris Robert Ferguson and Carl Barnes among others.
Mr and Mrs E J Myers of West Norway celebrate their 40th wedding anniversary hosted by Mr and Mrs Stanley Halter of Arago. A dinner Sunday brings guests including Mr and Mrs Wayne Woodward Mr and Mrs L E Barklow and Mr and Mrs Myers and Mr and Mrs L A JaFlomme of Myrtle Point.
Myrtle Point and vicinity students return for summer with families after the term away. Names include Edel Bryant Cecil Barker Frances True Aileen Dement Harold Draper Marguerite Sunstrup from Eugene and Paula Breuer Claude Preasler Cornelia Clausen from Corvallis Monmouth Ellen Watson from Ashland Anita Gill Harriet Bones Linfield Frieda James and Ar feur Peersen.
Bridge Civic Club wins first prize in the Coos Bay Bridge celebration parade. The Woman's Civic Club of Bridge earned 75 toward the community building fund with a cleverly built float featuring fir boughs a small log community hall and a bridge. The placard read From Bridge to Bridge signaling progress after the community hall fire last fall.
Senator Charles McNary reports on keeping the China Flat CCC camp open between Powers and Agnes. Regulations block keeping the camp, but the forester will check if adjacent camp construction can proceed.
The Natural League of District Postmasters will convene at Grants Pass on Thursday and Friday June 11 and 12. Activities include golfing fishing boating bathing and a trip to the Oregon Caves. Mr and Mrs Elton Schroeder left Wednesday to attend. Schroeder is league president.
Earl Phillips driving a pickup at Empire allegedly sped through an intersection and crashed, killing Mrs Rosetta Carson and her daughter Ida Carson. Two others including Earl and a passenger were injured as a second car crash followed before the vehicle stopped. Authorities consider involuntary manslaughter or second degree murder charges.
The Herald will begin a feature autobiography of Russell Ceeke Dement a noted pioneer of this section. The planned memoir covers a testing era in Oregon and will be issued in a series with distribution to friends and subscribers.
Brewster area resident Mrs Carrie Nickason of Sitkum suffered a severe burn to her right arm from a stove accident last Wednesday morning. She rode to Myrtle Point for medical attention where a physician dressed the wound. the injury is healing slowly but as well as could be expected.
Bryant a 24 year old former Myrtle Point athlete and son of Henry and Mrs Bryant of Bridgewall receives a varsity letter with the Oregon track team. He previously earned freshman numerals and a varsity letter at Oregon State. He placed in the mile and two mile events in recent meets and clocked 4:32.6 as a freshman at Oregon State.
The June 6 wedding of Miss Alice Alverdes daughter of Mr and Mrs Frank Alverdes of Portland to Wil am Byrnes son of Mr and Mrs W oH Byrnes of Ferron Park Wise was held in a Portland hotel. The ceremony followed by a wedding breakfast featured palms gladiol peonies and delphinium. The bride wore pearl gray silk crepe with fur trim and a broad brim hat. attendant Grace Linn wore aqua marine crepe. Best man Date Smith and about 40 guests attended. The couple will reside at 6417 Northeast End Avenue Portland after June 14. Mrs Byrnes is a former Myrtle Point High School commerce teacher.
Coos county is heavily represented at the state Grange gathering in Lebanon with Henry Gustafson Ray Deadmond F E Southmayd George Bessey Ithamer Robison August Witt J C Corrie Ban Don Grange Wayne Gray and more serving on various committees. Open air gathering Monday night featured community singing and a social at the American Legion hall as nine state Grange leaders from Idaho Washington and California participate and George Sehlmeyer will install Oregon officers Friday afternoon.
Tyrrell Woodward suffered two broken ribs torn loose from the breastbone after a fall under a grader near the barn at his Arago ranch. A physician was summoned and treated him for the injuries.
The E C Barker jewelry store in Myrtle Point completed a week long remodeling. The former Myrtle Point Electric shop space was opened into one room. The shop now offers fishing tackle guns ammunition and sporting goods with plans to add optical services from a registered optometrist weekly. Barker has run the jewelry business in Myrtle Point since 1920 and built a thriving operation.
The Pioneer picnic scheduled for next Sunday June 14 in the Mast Grove at Lee is postponed to the following Sunday June 21. Organizers cite weather concerns and logistical adjustments for the new date.
The annual school meeting will be held in each district on Monday June 15. Clerks and directors will be elected and budgets voted. In Zone 5 a non high school director will be elected. Zones include Alder and other districts.
The Coos county tax department urges taxpayers to pay the second quarter tax by Monday, June 15 to avoid interest. Payments not made by the due date incur interest from that day onward, and using one receipt will help the department respond promptly.
Reeves employed at Henry Bryant logging camp on Rock Creek was brought to Mast hospital by Schroeder ambulance after an accident at the camp. He suffered a broken back and will be confined to the hospital for several weeks.
Hugh Goodman was taken into custody Monday June 8 by Officer Bert Pearson on a charge of drunkenness. He pled guilty and an interdiction order was issued banning sale of alcoholic liquor to him by any person firm corporation or the state liquor commission from that date forward.
The Methodist Ladies Aid announce a rummage sale to be held next week Thursday through Saturday June 18 19 and 20. Various useful everyday articles will be on display at the building formerly Moran's Novelty Store.
Everett Laferty of Arago is appointed mail carrier for the Arago Catching Creek rural route, starting July 1. Postmaster Elton Schroeder says service continues only if patrons install a mailbox at a reachable location. Route runs from Coquille via Arago Myrtle Point Catching Creek Norton ranch and returns, then via main highway to the junction.
