Myrtle Point Summer Recreation Program Set

City Recreation Director Don Fisher announced a Myrtle Point summer program for youths 9 and older. Registration for baseball and other activities starts Monday June 12 at City Mall at 9 am, with swimming lessons to be scheduled later.

Baseball loop planned for local Babe Ruth league

All local boys aged 13 to 15 are asked to report to the baseball diamond on the fairgrounds at 4 p.m. Monday for a planned Babe Ruth League. If organized the league would be directed by the local Recreation Department.

Mast Qualifies for South Africa Trip With USA Wrestling

Jim Mast earns a spot on the American team for a six week overseas tour in Africa. He reports July 8 for training in Salem or Corvallis and departs July 20 for New York to begin a four match challenge. Mast defeats Rex Putnam’s Mike Todi 6-3 and Grants Pass’s Terry Reedman 4-3, then wins two straight over West Albany’s Paul Jackson 6-2 and 10-0 to clinch the team spot.

Housing aid applications being taken in Coos County

Some Myrtle Point residents may qualify for the Leased Housing Program run by the Coos County Housing Authority. The program leases private market homes to low income families with rents subsidized to fit what they can afford. Apply at the Community Activities building to receive more information or to submit an application.

Eighth graders receive Myrtle Crest School diplomas

A total of 139 eighth grade pupils graduated at Myrtle Crest School during graduation rites on Wednesday evening May 31. Tom Coffman presented diplomas to the graduates.

Umpaun Dunes Senate Aveny Set for 11 A M

The Umpaun Dunes Senate Avenue ceremony is scheduled for 11 a.m. with a breakfast by the Florence Chamber of Commerce and a limebean salmon barbeque to follow at Reedsport. A reading appointment by the Secretary of Agriculture and a Dunes Area Advisory Council meeting are planned for later after the ceremony.

Delegates named for 4-H Summer School at Oregon State

Sixty three Coos County 4-H'ers named delegates to the 7th annual 4-H Summer School at Oregon State University Corvallis June 12 to 17. They will join about 1 000 4-H members from across Oregon for classes in computer science ecology consumer education food technology plant science and more taught by university instructors and extension specialists. Additional sponsors include local Grange units and several businesses and clubs providing support for attendees.
