The Powers Ranger District of Siskiyou National Forest auctioned about 2700 MBF of timber in the Olk Point sale spanning sections 14 16 22. Roseburg Lumber Co won with a bid of 86 per thousand. total bid value estimated at 964386.00. Other bidders included Moore Mil Lumber Co Coos Mead Timber Co and Mank Westbrook Logging Co.

State adds coast trails to Oregon Recreation Trails System
The Oregon Recreation Trails Council approved about nine miles of trails in Humbug Mountain and Cape Sebastian State Parks to join the Oregon Coast Trail. The system now totals 30 miles with 24 miles slated for the coast route. The Brookings meeting on April 18 considered designating these segments as part of the system.

The Oregon Transportation Commission approved a 2.41 mile Broadbent Section project with a 3.008 million dollar budget including right of way. The plan relocates the northern highway on a former Georgia Pacific railroad right of way with two 12 foot travel lanes and four foot shoulders. Public hearings were held in 1969 and 1971 amid a strong push by Powers Housewives who gathered 900 signatures on 80 petitions in support.

Police and eleven in drug raid at Myrtle Point
Officers from the Myrtle Point Police Department conducted a raid shortly after midnight at 310 1/2 Spruce Street, seizing marijuana and growing plants. Darrel Brownson, 18, was arrested on a felony cultivating marijuana charge and lodged in the Coos County jail. Four others were cited for minor drug offenses and to appear in district court.
