Ray Ashbaugh aged 51 living near Remote suffered a serious accident at the John Cawrse mill when his right hand was severed above the wrist while on a trim saw. His son Russell applied a tourniquet and rushed him to Mast Hospital where Dr. Reed Gurney operated. By Monday he was recovering and expected to leave hospital soon.
Richard Vines charged with felony of public funds may have his case heard by the grand jury meeting in October. He remains jailed on $5,000 bail and has retained Wally Johansen of Coos Bay as his attorney.

The Hiland Theatre announces a 6 PM start for Sunday evening shows beginning this week to accommodate longer programs. Manager Ervin Wilberger cites popular demand and aims to finish the second show before midnight. This weekend presents Battle Cry starring Van Heflin Aldo Ray and others.
A drivers license examiner will be on duty in Myrtle Point at city hall on Wednesday August 3 1955 from 10 a m to 3 p m according to an announcement from the Secretary of State's office.
Coos County Rural Life Committee promotes National Farm Safety Week July 24 30 with a focus on preventing rural accidents. The effort cites 14 000 rural fatalities last year and urges safety training for adults to protect children from tractor harms poisons and house hazards.

Rochus Grzimek, 23, a German university student, will tour Coos County for five to six weeks as a guest of the three Rotary clubs in Coos Bay-North Bend, Coquille and Myrtle Point. He will stay in members' homes and split his time among clubs, while studying economics at Johann-Wolfgang-Goethe University in Frankfurt. He arrives in Portland on July 22 after editing a youth magazine for seven years and founding a teenage periodical for the Frankfurter Rundschau.
Rex Story billed as Londons best dressed man and worlds worst juggler will perform free shows at the Coos county fair in Myrtle Point on the carnival midway Friday August 19 to Sunday August 21. He has traveled from London to Honolulu and recently performed in Las Vegas Palm Springs Los Angeles San Francisco Seattle Vancouver and Victoria BC.
The Myrtle Point Sportsmen's club hosted a well attended shoot under lights with representation from Coos Bay North Bend Coquille and Bandon. An upcoming shoot and bingo was announced for Friday night inviting all. A work party occurred at the club boat dock in Arago and land near the dock was leased free by Chris Moller of Myrtle Point.

The 1955 Coos County Fair in Myrtle Point will feature major improvements including a mobile stage for Grange Talent Show and 4-H Style Revue, remodeled Community buildings, new roofing and foundation, enlarged exhibit spaces, enhanced 4-H facilities, upgraded restrooms, benches, a pay phone, and expanded picnic areas. The fair runs August 17 to 20 with plans for a 20 000 paid attendance and next year’s grandstand remodel.
Coos county's annual fair parade sponsored by Myrtle Point Saddle Club will feature Transportation Old and New with entries from organizations individuals and especially children across the county. Themed entries may include boats Indian travels covered wagons ox teams horses railroads automobiles bicycles floats trucks and more with cash awards and ribbons for various groups. Parade registration is not required just be on time the parade route map will be posted at The Herald window. Saddle Club committee members Billingsley Goodson and Dick McCuskey plan the event.
Buck Eliott proprietor of the Coquille Valley Golf and Country Club announces Ed Ofield from Roseburg will offer free golf lessons each Thursday this summer. Lessons run from 1 to 2 p m with access at the golf course contact to arrange participation.
County Road Supervisor Floyd Robb leads a crew rebuilding the Catching Creek road approach to the Spruce Street Bridge. Work is expected to take at least one week. The Petersen family left in June with a new commitment and year ahead.
