The Myrtle Point public schools will open Tuesday September 6 according to a recent announcement. The date follows Labor Day and marks the start of the new school term.

Employee Killed By Rolling Log Near Eckley

Early this morning Orin Bud Solomon was crushed on the loading platform at the McNaur Sykes camp at the Sixes River head near Eckley. Married about a year, he leaves a wife and baby. A logger with McNab Sels last season, his father, a rancher near Elkton, is expected to arrive to arrange the body at Schroeder Funeral Home. Funeral planned for Elkton on Saturday.

Four Day Rodeo to Highlight Coquille Celebration

Coquille hosts Golden Wear Dayz from August 10 to 13 with a three day rodeo featuring famed performers led by Miss Ollie Osborne and Miss Donna Cowan. Rodeo bronc champions Dell Smith Joe Coongn and Jerry Amber will appear with riders from Salinas and Fortuna. Local contests include a 20 dollar prize for taming Brahma bulls and a ladies back drawing contest. Children from the county perform on Thursday and a Mother County crown is awarded.

Thirteenth annual Nebraska picnic at Corvallis City Park

The Cornhuskers meet for the thirteenth annual Nebraska picnic at Corvallis City Park on Sunday August 7 in the south city park area along the highway. Last year about 1590 people attended with ample room this year. Coffee will be furnished free and attendees should bring their own cup. The afternoon program will be brief to allow time for renewing acquaintances.

Boy Safe In Calif After Leaving Home

John Kusba Jr., son of Mr and Mrs John Kusba of Myrtle Point, disappeared after leaving a note for his parents. Police were alerted as no destination was named. A Los Angeles aunt wired that the boy is safe with relatives and will stay there for several weeks.

Coos County pioneers picnic set for July in Coquille

The Coquille community hosts the Coos County Pioneers Picnic on July 31 at Mystic Grove beside the Community building. A large crowd is expected to attend with the Coquille band performing before lunch. Child Dies After Falling Limb Injures Girl

A Myrtle Point Coquille highway incident left Violet Thettle dead Monday from injuries after a cut tree limb struck her as she watched her father. She died in Coquille hospital where leg amputation and gangrene followed. Funeral services were in Dora church with Rev George Turney officiating. she is survived by her parents brother Keith Lois and grandparents.
