War Bond Drive Ends With Strong Coos County Yields

Final report on the Ith War Loan drive shows Coos county bond sales totaling 3,507,306 dollars at 196.9 percent of the quota in cash basis. Clarence Coe, county chair, notes EB bond sales reached 101.8 percent. Individual sales hit 158 percent of their quota. Coe says only 17 Oregon counties met EB quotas and six failed to meet individual quotas while all counties hit corporate and nearly all total quotas.

Rural Fire Crews Ready for Action in Oregon

About 460 rural fire crews in Oregon are organized and ready this year as in 1942, per extension forester D. Robinson during Farm Safety Week. He notes fires occur every 16 minutes nationwide, causing large losses. Oregon averages 400 fires and about 400000 dollars in annual damage. He urges practical readiness with water barrels, spray rigs, sprinkler irrigation, and knapsack sprayers to stop fires quickly.
