At a Monday meeting of the Coos County Chamber of Commerce Marshfield resident T H Ness was elected president, succeeding G E Bieger who resigned. Discussion focused on road improvements, relocation of Marshfield south entrance, and highway funding efforts with the Coast Highway Committee and Oregon Coast Highway Association reporting on fund use and travel gains.
The Coos Dairymen association schedules its regular quarterly meeting Monday afternoon at the county agent’s office. Members are urged to attend, join the organization, and participate in plans to aid Coos County dairymen.
Mrs Florence DeVaul Parrish of Los Angeles visits her aunt Mrs Will Weekly in Myrtle Point and meets childhood friend Mrs Johnnold. The pair, long separated since age ten, share memories during Tuesday evening reunion.
Robert Redell son of Mr and Mrs RA Redell of West Myrtle Point married Julia Thome in Eagle Rock California on June 18. Redell a Myrtle Point High School graduate works with the United States Forest Service. They plan a summer camping trip and will establish their home in Hollywood California this fall.
At a school board meeting in the schoolhouse on Thursday evening M T Beauchamp was elected to teach the Lee school for the coming year. Bids for wood to be called on July 20 were also let.
Plans are nearly complete for the fourth annual Coos County Lions stag picnic to be held at the Tedseon grove in Norway next Thursday July 26 at 8 p m Lions from Coquille Marshfield and Roseburg and their friends will attend Committee chairs include Perry Roper Elton Schroeder L L Powers Dr M R Mast E Darrel Brodie and R L Tucker Over 200 guests are expected for a banquet of barbecued baby veal with entertainment by various clubs and George Austin the Standard Of announcer car will broadcast to boost the event
Thomas L Ostrander of Myrtle Point earns training in leadership at the ninth annual Citizens Military Training camp. He is named corporal in Company L and, unless reassigned, will wear a squad leader's chevron for the remainder of the camp.
A light truck owned by Clea Con Ktidded overturned at Hall Creek Road early morning. Gilbert McNeil, the driver, sustained minor injuries and the vehicle sustained damage. Authorities investigated the single-vehicle crash and cleared the scene.
The Mid-Summer Flower Show drew visitors from neighboring towns to Marshfield and Coquille. Exhibitors led with roses, geraniums, violas and dahlias, awarding blue ribbons and a $2.50 Myrtle Greenhouses prize to the top exhibitor Mrs Aasen. Local volunteers—A A Cooper and Mrs C E Huling—received special rewards for standout displays.
Mr and Mrs Daniel Barklow Jr marked their 50th wedding anniversary with family and friends gathered Sunday. Ceremony linked to their July 13 1844 marriage in Myrtle Point. many relatives attended and photos were taken. Barklow pioneers recount early Oregon life.
Major Rinaldo Coe of Fort Riley Kansas arrived in McKinley Monday evening to visit old friends. He previously led the first group of boys in the McKinley CCC camp in May last year and has since been transferred to Fort Riley Kansas.
Warner Flenner and his family left Broadbent to become pastor of a church near Boise Idaho. Mrs Flenner and children Ellen Warner Jr and Betty will join soon. The move follows the family illness prompted relocation years ago.
Mr and Mrs Norleigh Alford and Raleigh Alford of Brewster Valley returned from Creswell to visit Veil Alford their son and brother who suffered an infected knee bone. Doctors diagnosed cancer of the bone and had to amputate the leg.

Little Miss Janice Lafferty four year old daughter of Mr and Mrs Fred Lafferty of Myrtle Point is ill at home with suspected typhoid fever. She became sick about a week ago and has a high fever and weakness. Blood tests are pending to confirm typhoid or another illness. The child’s father has heart trouble and has been largely homebound while the grandmother Mrs Tam Guerin helped care for the child over the weekend.
D. 8. Brode of Bridge sustains severe injury after a heavy cut of wood drops on his right foot. He must hobble with crutches for the time being.
Mrs Alice Jenkins daughter of Mr and Mrs Arthur Jenkins of Sitkum wed H B Hubbell a McKinley CCC employee at the North Fork Grange hall Saturday evening Rev G A Gray of Coquille officiated after a Grange program. A strawberry shortcake supper followed a dance. The couple will reside on the Robert R Kimbro ranch. Mia Hubbell a Coquille High School and Southern Oregon Normal School graduate has taught in the North Fork district for three years.
Miss Audra Wagner daughter of Mr and Mrs J M Wagner of Broadbent recently returned from University cruise to Alaska sailing from Seattle to Vancouver B C aboard the Princess Kathleen and from Vancouver to Skagway aboard the Princess Louise She enjoyed the trip noting a near encounter with a glacier on the way to Seattle She visited friends in Portland and Seattle and on returning She left last Wednesday for Santa Cruz California to attend summer school She teaches in Grants Pass.
Invitation to Coos county sheepmen and others for the Curry County Fat Lamb and Wool Show in Gold Beach on Saturday July 21. The event will showcase fat lamb pens for judging and bring buyers together to discuss wool purchases.
The Cees Produce Growers association will hold its first annual meeting at the Coquille courthouse at 10 a m Friday July 30. Officers directors and an executive marketing committee will be chosen to improve potato marketing through grading labeling and better merchandising. Local merchants have agreed to prefer graded association potatoes.
Instructor R W. Schaad named to succeed W A. Sawyer as local Smith-Hughes instructor arrived in Myrtle Point Tuesday to take up duties. He comes from Halfway where he taught agriculture and is from Newberg.
Mrs C and Murphy hosted a Wednesday luncheon at her Bridge residence. Guests included Mrs J A Fitzpatrick, Miss Gylene Fitzpatrick of Coquille, Mr P W Culver of Myrtle Point, and Mrs A C Gates with Mrs Albert Pancoast of Bridge.
Crescent City California witnessed the wedding of Miss Even McPherson and Casey Sutphin on Tuesday July 3. Miss McPherson is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Donald McPherson of Remote while Sutphin is the son of Mr and Mrs M D Sutphin of Big Creek. The couple will live in Crescent City as Sutphin works there.
Missretha Hazelton and Stefford Eildon Sutphin wed quietly at Bandon on Saturday night. The bride, daughter of Mrs Birdie Hazelton, and the groom, son of Mr and Mrs M D Sutphin of Big Creek near Bridge, will live with the bride’s mother while Mrs Hazelton works out of town.
Finney of Morth Bend, recently appointed by Sheriff Hess to collect delinquent taxes, is busy enforcing tax collection duties in the county.

Mr and Mrs A B Carlson of Bik River Minnesota and son, with J W Carlson family from Glendale, arrived in Myrtle Point to stay with the T G Sumerlin clan. They then went to Marshfield and proceeded down the Coast highway. A B Carlson enjoys his first Oregon trip, his wife having visited five years ago.
H. D. Bones and W. Taylor Dement shipped four carloads of cattle to California this past week. Mrs Lily Dement loaded a car of sheep for southern markets. Bones operates a large Gaylord ranch, Dement owns land in Eckley country near Powers.
Members of the Pioneer Picnic committees met at Coquille City Hall on Wednesday evening to finalize details for the event scheduled in late July. The meeting refined arrangements and confirmed participants for the community gathering.
A former local girl announced her marriage in Seattle on May 19, revealed at a luncheon for Mrs. Phi, a longtime women’s manager in Portland. Steckmen, with years in the Orient, works in the Portland shipping business and the couple will live there.
James Armfield found the skeleton of William Bailey on the Upper Catching Creek ranch Tuesday morning. Bailey had disappeared after leaving for a cow pasture following Armfield’s departure for Myrtle Point, with a posse once scouring the area for him. Local reports had placed Bailey in Fenly Oes County before the search.
