Boats depart at 8 00 a m and the race begins at 2 30 p m with spectators ferried from Rogue Boat Service dock.

Ear Roush, president of the Myrtle Point Rotary club, announces that Leslie A. White, district governor, will be the guest speaker at the noon luncheon. White, president of Albany Oregon, has long served Rotarians since 1919 and held leadership posts in Minot and Albany clubs. He is noted as an educator and former superintendent of schools. He will discuss Rotary work during his annual visit.
Myrtle Point announces the grand opening of the Flying A Service Station at Eighth and Harris Streets with Friday and Saturday events. Manager Walter E Barklow promises free coffee and doughnuts for adults and balloons for children, plus prizes including Flying A nylon tires and gasoline. Drawings are Saturday night at 8 30 with published winners. A big square dance closes the celebration at 7 30 on the front lot.
Mr Barklow, native of Myrtle Point and graduate of the Myrtle Point High School class of 7, served many years in the station career. His obituary notes decades of service and his local roots and commitment.
The University of Oregon lists Myrtle Point students John R Boone Ervin A Royer and Audrey A Royer with high grades and a 4.0 average. From Powers, Lawrence J Wiwatowski, a liberal arts freshman, also made the honor roll.
Jess Laird of Myrtle Point is elected president of IWA Local 7 116 in the Bay area. Balloting by union officials shows 1 400 members voted with officers named including Tommy Martin O J Freeman and Ray Brewart among others.
