The death of First Lieutenant Wallace J. Carl 25 in Australia was reported by cable to his wife Betty Carl of Tillamook. Born Arago June 20 1917 he graduated from Oregon State College in 1940 and served as assistant County Agricultural Agent before joining ROTC and active service in 1941. He was married November 9 1941 to Betty Cart and survived by his wife and three brothers.

Draftees Sent Home From Coquille Valley Camp
Thirty-two men from a draft of about fifty in the Coquille valley were returned this week with eighteen rejected and fourteen granted a fourteen day furlough to settle personal affairs before reporting to their designated army concentration camp. The furloughs allow preparation prior to conscription.
