On the hot Monday Myrtle Point residents recalled a blazing afternoon with thermometers around 96. An expected sea breeze vanished at noon and the heat lingered until late. Farmers paused hay work during peak heat while the dusky evening cooled and neighbors slept soundly. One Arago Street farmer noted the hay dried quickly and broke when forked into the barn.

Alva Ivan Miller Dies at Port Orford
Alva Ivan Miller died Friday at the family home in Port Orford. Burial and service were held Saturday at Norway Cemetery at 2 30 with Rev Henry Carver of the Assembly of God church officiating. Miller, born February 9, 1898, was married August 2, 1923. He is survived by his wife, two children, one brother, and several relatives.

Heat Prostration Fatality Reported in Oregon Town
Mrs Nancy C Conrad, 78, of Springfield Oregon, collapsed from heat while walking to a berry patch in Reedsport on Monday. She died the next morning after not regaining consciousness, the first recorded heat prostration in southwestern Oregon. The temperature reached 105 in Reedsport as she visited a son.

Herbert Spillane a 20 year old from Bandon died near Yreka California Tuesday afternoon when a car he rode in with D K Allen 38 of Klamath Falls overturned on the highway Allen escaped injury but was later arrested by the sheriff charged that the car was stolen at Dunsmuir The youths had been in Dunsmuir several days without work or food The incident ends a brief period of travel seeking work and sustenance.

Two Cars Collide at Spruce and Eighth Corner

Body Found Under Trees Near North Bend
