Building a Dairy Barn for Safety and Longevity

A historical guide outlines advantages of hollow tile or concrete block walls for dairy barns, with air circulation for dryness and fire resistance. It notes lumber can be used with air space walls, cement floors are durable, and dirt floors should be avoided for sanitation while wooden slots require tar to protect against moisture. It recommends rough cement surfaces to prevent cow slipping and stresses safety and upkeep.

Building a Model Dairy Barn For Clean Efficient Feeding

The guide describes cement stalls with level footing and a slight slope for drainage to keep cows steady. Concrete mangers ease cleaning and allow 4 to 10 boars per pen. two to three feeder bars prevent cross feeding. A 16 by 12 inch gutter aids cleanliness, with rounded corners and a higher edge near the cow. Stanchions like swivel steel designs give cows more freedom. Box stalls for sick animals or calves, placed away from milking cows, complete the setup.
