Petitions signed by more than a thousand Coos County residents will be presented at the State Game Commission hearing in Portland on July 9. The petitions urge discontinuation of the hunters choice three day season opened last fall, which allowed a hunter who failed to kill a buck to take any deer. The season drew strong opposition as many sportsmen described tame does and small fawns slain during the three day period.

Coos County Farm Bureau signed articles to join the Southwest Farm Bureau Livestock Marketing Association at Tuesday night’s Coquille courthouse meeting. Delegates reported California shipments from the Coquille center, and deadlines for shipment and corral placement were set. The county furniture and rummage sale were announced for August 13 and 14 in Coquille, with a July 13 next county meeting in Coquille where Oregon Farm Bureau field rep Stanley Tiegs will attend.
Morits Jalo a 40 year old Coos county 4-H leader died of a heart attack on a Haynes inlet farm late Tuesday last week. Born in Stockholm Sweden he had lived in Coos county since 1938 and helped erect the new 4-H building on the fair grounds serving as supervising constructor. Funeral services were held at Mills funeral home Coos Bay with burial in Sunset cemetery. He is survived by three daughters and two sons in California and Washington, two sisters and two brothers in Chicago and Okinawa.
Rev. Edw. McClurg has been reappointed to lead Myrtle Point’s First Methodist Church for another year by the Methodist Oregon Conference held in Portland. He arrived to fill the post after Rev. Wayne Brown's resignation and has since drawn many friends with his dynamic preaching and choir-boosting voice.
Myrtle Point prepares to furnish its new library as bids are invited by the city council. Bids will be opened at the council meeting on Monday July 12 and must be submitted to the city recorder's office beforehand.

The third annual Coos County Livestock Tour was held Sunday June 27 with a large turnout despite rain. At Theo Schie Hereford ranch visitors saw Hereford cattle forage plots and new equipment while Ray mond Capps in Curry county showcased Romney ewes and crossbreeding with Suffolk ducks boosting lamb weight. Miss Shirley from Oregon Cattlewomen’s association urged continued group involvement.
Broadbent grange marked its 25th anniversary with a program on June 26 featuring violin and piano by Mr and Mrs L Clinton, songs by Carlton Brown and others, a brief history, pinning of 25 year certificates, memorials, and a mortgage burning led by Worthy Master Glenn Gulstrom, concluding with God Bless America.
The Pee-Wee Baseball league in Myrtle Point plans a broom sale Saturday at 10 a.m. to fund equipment costs. Sixty-seven players are expected. four team captains George Lina Curtin Chuck Humble and Harvey Lewellen will supervise, with Mrs. Richard McCuskey and Mrs. Milton Mast assisting in the sale.

Baile, a Presbyterian minister, arrives at the Wallace Dement farm in Myrtle Point for three weeks then travels to Vancouver and on to the world Presbyterian alliance meeting at Princeton before returning to Ireland. He notes Ireland’s weather and forests, and will preach in Coos Bay on July 4.
