City Council Plans Gravel Upgrades for Main Streets

At a Monday meeting the council ordered more gravel and a grader to improve city streets for summer. Marshal Bert Pearson outlined yardage needs for Second to Ash streets, Railroad Avenue, Reedaford road, and the Maple area, with gravel to be bought in 28 yard lots. Ordinance 457 setting Railroad Avenue grade was adopted for review soon.

Washington Car Off Powers Highway Crash

A Chrysler sedan with Washington state plates ran off the Powers highway near Powers Tuesday morning injuring two men who were in the car. The vehicle was badly damaged and towed to L. H Pearce garage for repairs.

Two Robbers Hit Three Powers City Businesses

Two men robbed three Powers businesses Saturday morning with at least 1500 taken. They blew the Stewart hardware safe for 9125 then took 96 from Coos Bay Meat and emptied the Sempert drug store till. Deputy Stallard fired at fleeing robbers, who returned fire. strangers in town, possibly 86 year old men seen nearby, and a car suspected as the getaway.

Strong Winds Cause Damage Across Myrtle Point Area

A Thursday afternoon blast of strong wind caused extensive damage in the Myrtle Point region. A barn fell on the D. Price pine farm, a tree blocked the highway past Sugarloaf, and the Ray Waterman car was clipped. Siloes and a smokehouse were destroyed in Broadbent district. A windmill toppled near Norway trek. Several canyons roads were blocked but cleared by morning.

DEDICATE NEW CHURCH ON SUNDAY AFTERNOON

The New Assembly of God church in Myrtle Point will dedicate its new building at 2 30 PM Sunday at Willow and Fourth streets. Delegations are expected from Coquille Marshfield Bandon North Bend Winchester Bay Reedsport and surrounding counties. The church is described as a beautiful edifice fully equipped to carry on church work.

Windstorm Causes Near Miss At Rural Camp Near Roseburg

During last Thursday's fierce wind, Mrs Arch Lewis faced a dire scare at their camp near the county line on the Roseburg highway as trees toppled all around. Ray Waterman’s car was damaged by a nearby fall, lights and bumper torn off, and the road remained blocked by debris.
