Myrtle Point Fire Chief Reports 1960 Calls and Loss
Fire Chief J M Myers told council the Myrtle Point Volunteer firemen answered 30 calls in 1960 with total losses of 75465.00 and property endangered at 515500.00. Mutual aid assisted Coquille firemen in July at the Thornton and US Royal Tire Shop fires. Twenty one volunteers served, drills held weekly, and some new gear replaced old. A Roseburg Highway property fire produced a small loss but was outside city limits.

Lumber Truck Topples On Sloped Turn Near Spruce Street
A lumber truck from John F. Cawrse Lumber Co. toppled while turning onto Spruce Street near Spruce Street Bridge on Friday evening blocking Old Highway 42 for about an hour. Driver Phillip Gordon Boyd of Camas Valley was uninjured. The truck, loaded with lumber, was en route from Leep mill to Cawrse’s Mount Vernon home. Traffic was directed by Officer M P Hathaway.

The girls from Myrtle Point, Beber, Worth Bend and Stewart Pow ers High Schools, with their mothers and advisors, will attend a tea on February 11 hosted by the Coos Bay Chapter at Marion Horsfall's home. Myrtle Point Rotary at the Myrtle Hotel noon meeting welcomed former District Governor Bill Caldwell of Medford as guest speaker. Caldwell spoke on the upcoming Medford state convention this spring, while Hamilton Thrift discussed Aircraft Radio Navigation. Out-of-town Rotarians Grant VanDoran George Burr and Mike Carney from Coquille attended, with Wayne Babcock as chair and Tim Wooley as a student guest.
