Study urged on forest closure policy review
Oregon State University economist Dr Charles F Sutherland argues that closing forests to logging during high fire danger should be re examined. His 1967 closure study in Coos and Douglas counties, published in Journal of Forestry October 1973, estimates 1987 losses of about 4 6 million to forest firms and 1 7 million to their employers. The report notes longer than two week closures and warns that total leases were significant enough to merit re evaluation.

Bank debits for November 1973 across 11 reporting banks including Coos County totaled 191.846 million. October 1973 debits were 64.324 million and November 1972 debits 375.413 million. Oregon with 426 banks reported a 16.0 percent gain in November 1973 from October and a 52.4 percent rise from November 1972. Overall November 1973 bank debits reached 11.407396 billion.
