The North Bend Chamber of Commerce passed a resolution urging approval of nuclear power lines. It cites energy shortages nationwide and regionally, the need for clean power, and economic depression in Coos County and Bendon area as supporting factors.
Word comes that 16. Bingham, longtime Myrtle Point resident and former local businessman, died in Tacoma Washington. His wife died earlier.
Dr John Reslock, local ophthalmologist, was elected president of the Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce at a noon meeting Monday. New officers for 1974 include Mel Zumwalt as first vice president Jim Chapel as second vice president Milton Schroeder as treasurer and Shirley Francis as secretary. The chamber endorsed Pastime Cafe's Greyhound agency application in Myrtle Point.
A public hearing on the interim land use zoning map for District 12 is set for 8 p.m. January 23 at the Bridge Grange Hall. Maps are on display in the Coos Forest Protective Association office in Bridge for public viewing. The Bandon Common Council adopted a resolution urging regional entities to support early siting of a plant at Whiskey Run, dated December 10, 1973, signed by Mayor D. L. Goddard.
Former Senator Jack Ripper urged a three pronged local self help plan to ease gasoline shortages. The proposal includes staggered station hours, a 12 gallon limit per car, and banning filling of extra cans. Oregon Coastal Gasoline Dealers Association backed the idea and urged voluntary cooperation.

Congressman John Dellenback is set to address the Myrtle Point Rotary Club at a noon session today after an informal public hearing on the energy crisis in the Coos Bay Library Auditorium. He will also meet the Coos Bay City Council at 7 a.m. and speak to North Bend High School students at 8:30 a.m.
Twenty one attended the Myr tle Point City zoning hearing held January 2 at city hall. Planning Commission members chaired by Jack Dunn plus City Manager Jim Howe and City Attorney Frank Meldrum were present. Jim Myers was the lone councilmember in attendance. Speakers opposed establishing an A2 Zone on the property owned by Jim Howe between Grover Lane and View Street.
The MPHS biology program offers traditional and environmental tracks led by Craig Johnson and Robert Breitkreitz. Students study fundamentals in the first semester, then progress to dissection and zoology, genetics, and practical projects such as aquariums, with geology and human genetics also explored.
Jaycees from southwestern Oregon attend a regional meeting in Myrtle Pay Cees on Saturday January 2 with Ron Bryant past Oregon Jaycees president as guest speaker. Events include breakfast lunch at Tubby's Restaurant Crest School forums and a wives program at American Legion Hall. Community members debate industrial lane surface Kincheloe Lane and zoning concerns while planning commission considers a residential ordinance.
The District 13 Land Use Steering Committee will hold a public hearing on January 16 at 8 p.m. in Powers to vote on accepting or modifying a land use map before sending it to the planning commission. District 13 covers areas from a forest three miles north of Powers to the county line. Maps are viewable at the Forest Service headquarters in Powers.
