A home for the Vern Albright family of Dora was built over a weekend by 230 volunteers from nearby communities. The seven month old daughter died in a fire on Monday January 7. Donation of lumber and wiring came from Schlatter Bros. mill and Georgia-Pacific respectively, with many locals contributing labor, materials, and support drives.

School Board Orders District Building Survey and Plan
The district 41 school board approved a $5,000 federal loan funded survey by R H Erichsen Coos Bay to study junior high or high school needs. The firm will design and supervise construction if built. if no school is built, repayment is not required. A Myrtle Point school is two to three years away. Superintendent Joe Stewart emphasized tax reductions before building. The study also considers future television teaching programs and hookup funding.

Fire destroys upper floor of Meyer home on Ash Street
Volunteer firefighters fought a two hour blaze at the Meyer residence on Ash Street early Friday morning January 11. The fire consumed the entire upper story, a vacant apartment, leaving only the lower walls and some furniture on the first floor. Cause of the fire is under investigation.
