A 14 to 15 year old Bridge area boy was arrested in Myrtle Point after leading officers on a chaotic early morning pursuit in a stolen auto. He faced larceny of an auto and eight traffic offenses and was referred to Coos County Juvenile Court.
Harvey Harris Myrtle Point High School drama director chose Rodgers and Hammerstein’s Oklahoma for a mid March production. Auditions drew 36 students for eight lead roles with a full cast at work and dates set for March 8 9 14 and 15. Props include an old fashioned butter churn and costumes reflect early 1900s cowboy and centennial garb.
December proved a slow month for the South Coast area with temporary and indefinite layoffs in lumber and food products. Mills shut down for periods, Roseburg Lumber Co in Coquille paused operations, and transportation and seafood activity declined. Electricians stayed busy but January projections warned of further slow activity.
Coos County Juvenile Advisory Council kept its stance against placing the juvenile shelter care facility near the Bay Area. A proposal to locate the facility near the Bay Area moves to the Coos County commissioners for a final decision. A Myrtle Point Chamber delegation led by Elton Schroeder urged using the former Pioneer House Inn to save money.
Dr James Oldfield head of Oregon State University animal science speaks on predator research and New Zealand ag issues at Bridge Grange Hall Saturday Jan 16. The event follows the Coos County Livestock Association wool pool meeting and a lamb dinner at 6 pm.
Coos County dog licenses for 1975 are now on sale at locations throughout the county for a four dollar fee. Licenses are available in Myrtle Point at Myrtle Veterinary in Bridge at Parkit and Market and in Powers at the city hall. A fine amount is set for violations of dog control regulations.
The Sawdust Theatre announces cast auditions for five female roles in its 1975 melodrama directed by Ben Barton. The twoact play will have six scenes per act. Tryouts begin at 3 p.m. Sunday January 19 at the theatre and also January 29 at 7:30 p.m. Barton said.
Myrtle Point schedules public meetings in multiple bodies. City Council meets first and third Mondays at city hall. Port of Coquille River and Myrtle Point School Board set regular sessions on specified Mondays and times. Planning Commission holds meetings on the third Monday at 7:30 p.m. at council chambers.
Citizens of Coquille and the Ministerial Association announce a County Information Fair on January 24 from 9 am to 5 pm at the Coquile Community Building. Representatives from Veterans Administration Public Welfare Food Stamps Legal Aid SWOCC unions and many agencies will provide materials and guidance on benefits budgeting meals recreation unemployment checks and related issues. A hotline will operate January 37 at 396 3414 to connect attendees with the appropriate agency.
The University of Oregon Bureau of Business and Economic Research reports 12 banks in the state saw debits totaling 192.896 million in November 1974, up 3.9 percent from October and 10.3 percent from November 1973. Nationwide for Oregon, 443 banks contributed to 12.578 billion in November 1974, compared with 12.107 billion in October and 11.407 billion in November 1973.
