About 20 000 hunters were randomly selected from 250 000 licensed hunters to report last year’s success or failure. The game commission sent questionnaires to the group and will follow up with nonrespondents. Data will yield total game kills for 1962, including deer and upland birds, with about 3 percent sample accuracy.
In eastern Oregon Morgan Lake yields 35 945 trout in the 1980 creel check with many large fish. Growth is rapid under fingerling stocking, averaging 11 pounds per surface acre from 1961 to last year, and 72 percent of fish were one or two years old. Last year 1 182 subunits of fingerlings averaged 18 pounds per acre.
Dr Jack Grant is appointed to operate the Bandon Veterinary Hospital announced by Dr R P Whitaker and Dr Robert Haug. He is associated with Myrtle Point's Myrtle Veterinary Hospital. The Grant family moved to Bandon last weekend after six months in Myrtle Fount.
Campfire Girls completed Christmas projects and caroled with other groups before the holiday. Nadina Evans received a birthday surprise at the party. Bead honors were awarded to Tuesday and Wednesday groups with several named members. Next bead ceremony is at the Valentine party.
The Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce renewed its membership in the Cees County Chamber Monday at noon. The Myrtle Point group is a strong supporter and actively works for Cees County as a whole.
Bobcats under Coach Guido Caldarazzo lost 31-16 to Oakland with Myrtle Point winners including Winningham 1-0 and Dollarhyde 5-1. Reedport defeated MPHS 37-16 as Robison and Hogan tied 3-3 and 2-2 respectively. Bruce Winningham, son of Bill Winningham, is a 128 pound junior active in band and wrestling for MPHS.
Bill Shires will represent Myrtle Point High School FFA in the Rogue Umpqua district public speaking contest at the MPHS cafetorium at 10 a.m. January 19. Nine FFA chapters will be represented, each entering one contestant. elimination speeches were held in class and six boys per chapter advance to the parliamentary procedure contest judged by Wallace Dement, Mont Lund, and Charles Poehlitz. Public is invited.
Myrtle Point retailers said at a Monday noon meeting they will expand Christmas events this year with more decorations and more Santa Claus. The 1962 Christmas festivities at the Hiland theatre drew crowds, with Lions Club and merchants sponsoring free shows and Santa visits proving highly effective in attracting shoppers.
