Newly elected officers for Myrtle Grange No. 289 and the Juvenile Grange were installed in a Saturday ceremony. Installing officer was Henry Gustafson of North Bend, assisted by Mrs Roy Cardatas as capes henner and Leona Lew Southmayd with music by Rose Miller. Russell Evans named new Grange Master.
Pastor Glen Hutton will install new officers for the coming year at Faiders Christian Church. Elders, deacons, Bible school superintendent, and attendance superintendent will be set apart. The pastor will preach the second Cross series message “The Magnetism of the Cross” and speak on “Meets Man in the Church on the Lord’s Day.”
The State Highway Commission will hear a second interview from Housewives For 42 at 11 30 A M Friday January 17 in the Imperial Hotel Queens room Portland They aim to present data on highway needs and what plans exist for improvements Leaders in Security Bank building voiced plans and invites went to area groups Women will arrange their own travel and hotel stays for the Portland meeting.
Myrtle Point voters 136 to 101 approved a 250000 bond for a new filtering plant, renovated mains, and a water meter system. City plans fund by water rents, not taxes, with meter rolls set to determine rates similar to peer towns. Construction may start in spring. meters to be installed immediately. Mayor says attend council meetings for transparency.
A 1958 March of Dimes drive for Myrtle Point and area urges continued polio funding. Despite vaccine progress, two thirds still need three shots. many polio victims remain paralyzed. Campaign runs through January 31 with Mothers March by Beta Sigma Phi chapters.

Coos County Farm Bureau announces a statewide membership campaign with captains Roy Yager Ross Emerson Willis VanLeuven Don Schmidt Tom Guerin and Victor Pettingill leading efforts. Kickoff set for Jan 13 at 10 am in Coquille with tours to Eugene Bend and a Jan 14 county meeting in Coquille.
In Oregon on Friday January 3 gasoline taxes paid this year nearly equal the entire first year of enactment in 1919. Officials said about 443000 will be collected today. state tax plus federal tax push motor fuel revenues to about 54.8 million this year, with taxes now at about 41 percent of price.
Superintendent Hubert Armstrong addressed the Myrtle Point High School view on student community service at a Chamber of Commerce gathering. He stressed that service is a shared effort beyond the school board and faculty, urging student involvement and local cooperation.
Grant Scott has been appointed as associate director for Coos County extensions services staff effective January 1. He previously served in county and city roles and brings extensive experience in civic and farm organizations, art fairs, and area development. Scott is a Oregon State College graduate in general agriculture from 1948.
Fairview Community Church invites all to hear Evanger Costlew of Glendale at the Community Church. He will preach at 200 a. m. and 7:36 p.m. on Sunday January 12 and in the following days. Costlew has appeared locally before and is anticipated to share messages from the Word of God. Everyone is invited to attend.
At a Monday night meeting, City Administrator Ben E. Nichols was given a vote of thanks and appreciation for long hours and dedicated service. The council and mayor commended his efforts and commitment to the city.
