The Coos County Derrymans association holds its annual meeting at Woodman hall Coquille Monday January 9 starting 10 am. E L Peterson president announces an interesting program with talks by Hana Selfers district rep and Dr J H Bennett on dairy health and a discussion on land use to bolster agricultural income.
Art Pearson of Myrtle Point has been awarded an assistantship in the English department at Linfield College. He will assist in correcting and grading papers under the supervision of the department, following strong performance in English classes.
Work began today at the Myrtle Gold branch of the Sonoma Valley Cheese Factories. The new site sits at the southwest corner of Spruce and Eighth streets and will house upgraded equipment. Thomas Volla, proprietor, visited town last week to oversee local interests.

New Year social at Edwin Schroeder’s home brought Mary Rylander Rufus Rylander Vernon Donald Trigger Milton Schroe der and Rev and Mrs C M Brown among guests.
The honor roll from Eastern Oregon Norma includes Alice Mary Watkins of Halls Creek. Miss Watkins is the daughter of Mr and Mrs Ernest Watkins and this is her second honor at the school.
Everett Cook reported Monday that he recently moved into the Tike Cook house on Railroad avenue, marking a residence change.

Sunday dinner guests Mrs Amelia Lafferty hosted by Johnny Price and C W Ashton group. Reedsport visitor Gerald Hatey spent weekend with Rose Sherlock. North Bend guests include Charley Guerin and Thomas Guerin at William Jacobson home. Union of several dinner and visiting parties noted around Marshfield, Coquille, and nearby.
Myrtle Point shows rapid library growth in books and new registrations. December report records 1351 total loans, 967 adult, 368 children, 18 state library items, 227 magazines circulated, 21 new registrations, $1370 total receipts from fines and rentals.
The Coquille County agent is reappointed as secretary to handle routine duties for 1939 while Pearl Jackson is reappointed secretary in the extension office and a treasurer is named. A budget draft was prepared and sent for approval, with 3 percent of benefits paid to members in 1938. About 800 farms were included, representing just over 80 percent of farm land. remaining farms may file work sheets by January 15. County agents will assist farm operators with a Saturday session at Marshfield Coos Bay Mutual for the 14th from 1:30 to 3:30 pm.
Frank Rose II and Leroy Hendricks 72 were arrested Friday in Marshfield on larceny charges for cigarettes and items from a grocery. Al Rahn 32 jailed on grand larceny for stealing an outboard motor from Earl Bush. John Wesley Nash, paroled in Coos county, was re jailed after admitting parole violation during interrogation at St Helens. Willard Nickson 41 jailed for hogs at large. Mary Pack 37 fined for lodging-house fraud. John Freeman 37 and Aliso Silver held on robbery charges with $1,000 bonds.

Nichols and Mrs spat Nichols of Myrtle Point also motor to Langlois. Sunday guests at Frank Zumwalt home for New Years include Mrs May Radabaugh and Andy Radabaugh. John Paulsen, ex-Bridge service station operator, seeks patronage along the Pacific highway from his new location north of Newberg with cabins at his station. Beal familes visit Rev Hugh Mitchelmore during Christmas as he becomes pastor at Merrill Community Presbyterian Church after Moro tenure.
The Bt Anta Aline society mill hosts the third in a series of car parties at City Hall on Friday at 8 o'clock. This public event invites all residents to attend.
A severe logging accident near the Ray logging camp, near Fairview, occurred Wednesday around 11 am when a strong wind tipped two wires and toppled a spar pole. Wilfed Laird suffered a broken neck and other injuries, John Ray was knocked unconscious briefly with shoulder injuries, and Ray Benham escaped with lesser injuries.
The State Planning Board reports tax reverted lands in Oregon grew from 17 500 to 44 000 acres in Coos and nearby counties, increasing delinquent taxes to over a million dollars. Counties face shrinking tax bases and seek long term use reforms through forest, grazing and agricultural leasing, with Coos County advancing land classification and park projects to stabilize revenues.
The Marshfield Pirates defeated the Myrtle Point Bobcats 24 to 19 in the first league game of the season on the local hardwood.
The Townsend club marks an anniversary on Thursday January 12 at Erenge hall. The program features a speech and a Dutch auction followed by dancing and music. Refreshments will be served and a small admission is charged.

Eugene Becker of Wisconsin carded a 35 at Coquille Valley nine hole course on Sunday. He made pars or better on every hole, totaling four on each of holes one through eight and a three on hole nine, the first par score achieved on the course.

The secretary of state will renew motor vehicle operator licenses for a $1 fee with the license number, except those 70 and older who must take another exam.
