Dairymen of Coos County set an annual gathering for Wednesday January 10 in the Coquille Community building. Topics include mask marketing for fluid distribution and for manufacture and consumer education, dairy herd testing, and a DHIA report. One director from each of seven districts will be elected for two years, with a luncheon to follow.
Myrtle Point Lions Club funds a basketball fundamentals school with Len Rinearson, high school coach, to develop material for future Bobcat teams. Classes start Saturdays in January and February at the high school gym with separate times for grades 3 to 8. Boys must secure coach permission to attend and bring own shoes and towel.
Two teams meet Sunday at the high school gym for a grudge basketball game. The Lions feature Len Rinearson and Sam Dement, ex Oregon State Hall of Fame stars, while the Actives count Myrtle Point standouts Harold Belloni Walt Barklow Dale Stevens Ammold DeWald Bill Dayton Jim Bagley Don Wolgamott Delmer Greer Norman Jarvis. Proceeds fund high school athletic equipment.
Mountain States Power Company directors in Albany Oregon plan a 3 for 1 stock split exchanging 300000 no par value shares for 800000 shares of 7.25 par value. President A W Trimble says the move alters par value without changing equity and a special stockholders meeting is set for January 30 1951 to amend the certificate of incorporation. Applications to the Federal Power Commission and state regulators are filed and voting rights may be adjusted with the split.
Dr. A Theodore Smith announces the Inter Church Fellowship will hold its first meeting of the year at First Christian Church next Monday at 7 PM. A potluck dinner will be served and all interested are urged to attend. Ed Russell is the new president leading the group.
The Bobcats under Coach Len Rinearson have moved from a rough start to a sharper team as they host Medford and Ashland, with Marshfield seen as the district favorite. A full house is hoped for this Saturday night at 8 at the high school, with a 6:30 JV game, and student government has lowered adult tickets to 80 cents to boost attendance.
Pfc Clifford Bronson is reported missing in action. A Myrtle Creek native, he enlisted in 1947 and served in Korea and Japan, returning in 1950 before reenlisting in June 1950 and serving with the engineers in Korea. He is the son of Mrs May Estes and nephew of Mrs Hattie Hatcher and Henry Bronson.
Sixteen Scouts from Troop 98 endured their first overnight outing of the 1950-51 season on Red Mountain. Howard Whitaker and Arnold Melby ferried them to the trailhead at King's Canyon where they hiked with packed bedding and food. They lunch at an abandoned cabin, then cleared brush and moved toward a camp site with several unused cabins offered by Poverty of the Chaney Lumber Co. for a potential permanent base.
Governor McKay presents a 1951 53 spending plan with appropriations totaling 75 448 861 including 5 1 million for veterans bonus bond payments and 623 520 for ward ball school support. Emergency building requests separately, no pay raise extension beyond March 1 1951.

McKinley Grange petitions the Oregon State Legislature to shift income tax toward a broader state levy. They seek to close loopholes and raise revenue, arguing current rules lose funds. The group cites prior sales proposals rejection and notes a six county measure. Oregon delegates Miller and Walker of Dora visited Pomona Grange in Sixes on New Year’s Day.
Oregon Legion posts lead a nationwide Tide of Toys drive to ship 100000 toys from the United States to Europe. Local posts collect through December 28 and ask churches and businesses to join. Donors attach messages to gifts and route shipments to Pier 38 South Philadelphia for a January voyage.
In Coquille on December 20 two men were sentenced to four years in the state penitentiary after appearing in circuit court. James D. Iman 25 and Arthur Junior Hayes 34 were charged with larceny of seven rifles from Barker Jewelry in Myrtle Point on February 10. Iman also known as Bob Connors was returned from California. State police recovered six rifles and part of the loot. $900,000 worth of ammunition remained missing.
