Farmers urged to sign corn hog aid program lists

Coos county farmers who produced an average of 30 acres of corn or three litters of pigs in the past two years are urged to sign the corn hog aid list at the county agent’s office. Payments include incentives for reducing pig production and acreage, with contracts running one year and a state review board coordinating the campaign in Oregon.

Seven Injured In Fairview Accident

A truck carrying twenty three men veered from the road near the North Fork and plunged 40 feet into a hollow. One forestry supervisor, 33, suffered the most serious injuries including dislocated hip and broken ribs. Four injured were moved to Roseburg hospitals. others received on site treatment.

Woodshed Fire Destroys Outbuilding at Bancroft Home

A woodshed at the Mia Erma Wise Place in Bancroft burned Wednesday morning, fully destroying the shed and its contents. Nelson, the resident, had a smokehouse and winter provisions inside, and was nearby smoking meat when the blaze started. about 20 men worked to save the house.

Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce reelected all current officers unanimously at Hamma cafe on Tuesday. Elton Schreor reported the campaign chest results and finances to continue CCC camp entertainment, with the annual meeting set for Tuesday January 10.

Death by Own Action Shocks Coquille Businessman Meric Hartson

Meric J Hartson a 68 year old Coquille furniture dealer and Roosevelt Service Station attendant died Thursday afternoon from a self inflicted gunshot wound officials report financial worries believed to be a factor. Survived by widow Edna Hartson two daughters Avis and Virginia mother Louise Chase three sisters and one brother the Hartson family has deep ties in Wisconsin and California where he previously lived before moving to Coquille about 30 years ago.

County relief feeds 90000 cans to county indigents

The county court orders weekly delivery of 90 000 cans of assorted goods from the county farm to the county relief committee. Weekly must obtain receipts from recipient families and report monthly. Thirteen cases of eggs received from Portland for relief. Three pounds pork per indigent family every three weeks. Delinquent tax sale listed and a drunken driving charge against Gov Nichols Smith noted.

Extradited youth faces forgery charges in Coos County

Benee McCready 27 was taken into custody in Crescent City on New Year's Day on a charge of forging checks and passing them in Coquille and the boy section. He waived extradition and was returned to Coos County to await a hearing. Florence Anita McElwain filed notice of the assumed business name Bay Motors for a Marshfield garage purchase.

The Library Board met Tuesday afternoon for its annual election of officers and to review the librarian’s December report. Officers were reelected, including Mrs C E Hul and Mrs Huling’s term was extended by city council approval. The librarian reported 10160 adult, 246 children, and 29 state books read totaling 129? books, with 2.90 dollars from paid books and 4.10 from overdue books.
