Hon Ralph T Moore argues for reduced tax burdens and limited government to sustain national production and full employment. He warns against inflationary taxes, government controls, and imperialist doctrine, urging unity, savings, and prudent fiscal policy.
Myrtle Point Chamber of Commerce directors announced a three o clock Monday visit to the new Myrtle Point Veneer mill for a get acquainted session with company officials. Jaek Dunn, the Chamber president, urged members to attend and Mayor Herman Jedsen of Newark assists with plans. Refreshments will be served.
Deputy collectors of the Treasury department will be in Myrtle Point Jan 6 to aid farmers with Forms 1040 ES for 1947 and the preparation and filing of 1947 income tax returns. Other taxpayers will be assisted at the announced location.
Myrtle Lodge No 76 AF and AM members attended Sunday evening services in a body at the Methodist church. Rev W A Briggs spoke on Building a Faith for Today and Chester Weed with Mrs Zula Noyes sang The Lord's Prayer. This may be the first time the lodge has gathered for church attendance.

Mr and Mrs Ronald Holbrook of Coquille are parents of a son born on Christmas Day. The infant is described as the grandson of Mrs Annie McNair along the Broadbent route.
Twelve Victory medals were issued to eligible veterans Tuesday December 23 at the American Legion meeting in Myrtle Point. Three American Defense medals also issued. Sergeant William H. Taylor presented the awards. Recipients of both American Defense and Victory medals: Chester Lee Collier Vernon E. Shields Charles E. Hendershott. Victory medal recipients: Raymond H Cotton Jack L. Eads Theodore S. Easton John A. Griffin Tom D. Guerin Johnnie A. Guthardt Everett J. Jackson William E. Johnson Merton E. Miller. Adjutant Bert Pearson urges eligible veterans to contact him about receiving the medals.
Walter E. Higgins left Friday evening for Denver to testify as a United States witness in the case of a car stolen last fall and left at Higgins and Morrieh’s service station for repairs. The vehicle was reported stolen in Denver and then brought to town for work.
Mrs. Frank Meldrum, chair man of the Christmas seal program in Myrtle Point, urges all who have not sent money for the seals to do so quickly. The sale ended December 34 and the chairman will report totals to the county chairman soon.
County clerk L Oddy announced a new supply of dog license receipts and metal tags. Starting January 2 1948 owners must license each dog eight months or older for a two dollar fee. Tags will show the county name year and license number.
Mr and Mrs Hocwosd Browray returned Sunday from spending the Christmas vacation in Tilte.
Voters in two district areas will discuss proposed budgets at meetings on January 19 and January 21. District 41 junior high and Union High School District No. 2 will present budgets of 985 806.50 and 902 568.50 respectively with notable increases over prior years.
Mrs Jock Lemmers hosts Christmas Day gathering in Roseburg with relatives visiting from nearby towns and family friends sharing festive greetings and meals.
Masons and Eastern Star officials were installed last Saturday night in the Masonic Temple. Howard Whitaker became Master of Myrtle Lodge No AF and Mrs Ruth Whitaker was installed as Worthy Matron of Hi Chapter No 24. Other officers named included Warder Helen White, Sentinel J Logan White, and Ruth Whitaker as W M with Ralph Whitaker as W P Furman A Collier.
