Crowd Greets Santa At Theatre Party
An overflow crowd of 650 to 700 children attended the Hiland Theatre Christmas show sponsored by the Hiland Theatre and the Lions Club. Beata Claus and helpers ran out of treats as more children arrived than expected. About 470 attended last year. Martin brothers transported district children free of charge via three buses from Sitkum Dora McKinley Neway Gravelford and other Myrtle Point area. Austin Dodge started the annual party three years ago and free treats were provided by the Lions Club.

Largest Fish In Derby Reported By Melvin Floyd
The Myrtle Point Lions Club derby reports Melvin Floyd caught the largest steelhead this week weighing 17 lbs 4 3 4 oz. Rev Wilmer Briggs placed second with 13 lbs 8 oz and Chas Belshaw third with 12 0 2. Lida Hagedorn remains the top woman. Grand prizes include a 2 foot boat and a Waring mixer. Six weeks remain until January 31 1948.

Myrtle Point Sportsmen Hear President Speak
The Myrtle Point unit of the Southwestern Oregon Sportsmens Association voted to consult other units on trout season changes. President C W Scott reported progress and plans for the year. recommended opening May 26 and closing Nov 16, with tidewater season June 15, and urged a concrete pond at the Bandon hatchery. The group also discussed closing tidewaters to commercial fishing and keeping dues at two dollars. A Coos Bay board meeting set by laws and plans for the Portland game commission meeting on Jan 9 were outlined.

Joint Installations Planned by Masons and Eastern Star
Myrtle Lodge No 78 AF and AM and Elgin Chapter No 24 Eastern Star announce joint installations for December 27 in the Masonic Temple. Masonic officers were elected December 11 and Eastern Star officers December 4. A 6:30 dinner precedes the installation at the Temple.

Christmas Music Played For Rotarians' Meeting
Members of the Myrtle Point Grammar school band performed at the Rotary club luncheon at the Myrtle hotel. A program of Christmas music was presented. The next Rotary meeting is scheduled for Thursday January 8 due to holidays. Dr and Mrs R W Gronemeyer and family left Tuesday morning to visit relatives at Bedro Wooley Washington.

Xmas Seal Sale Totals Report To Date
Mrs Frank Meldrum Myrtle Paint chairman for the Seal sale announced that $684.40 had been received from seal sales in this vicinity. Nine hundred thirteen envelopes were sent to prospective buyers last Thanksgiving week and the total amount returned equals the sum announced. Three hundred and thirty envelopes were returned without money. The sale is due to end the day before Christmas.

Christmas Concert Heard By Many
An audience of about 450 enjoyed a high school Christmas concert directed by Mr Arnold Melby in the school auditorium. The program opened with numbers by the high school band and featured performances by the junior high chorus, high school boys and girls glee clubs, plus soloists. Mrs Harriet Harper assisted, with Miss Janet Lee Ramsdell directing the set decorations.
