City Council Lets Grading Contract

Evangelistic Services Begin at Church of the Brethren Portland

The Church of the Brethren in Portland opened evangelistic services last Tuesday evening drawing a large crowd. Evangelist HM G Shank preached on making Jesus Christ's religion testable by everyday life. Services run nightly except Saturdays for at least two weeks with 7 30 pm openings, motion and film projections, religious and educational elements, and special music. The church welcomes the Myre Point community to attend.

WCTU Program and County Institute Report

The local WCTU held a Friday evening program at the Brethren church with hymns, a prayer, solos, talks by Mrs Lattoon and Mrs For, and a safety drama. Louise Epperton and others spoke as a county WCTU institute meets the next Tuesday in the Christian church with a noon covered dish. Judson Cornwall won the Bible reading contest and will advance to the county event in Coquille.

Norways 90s Jail Photo Display At The Herald Window

The Herald displays two Maine time photos donated by Don Nelson of Myrtle Point. One shows the Myrtle Paint mill south fork around 34 years ago with foreman Fred McLon and workers. The second depicts the Norway school era near the present Norway store around 40 years ago with teacher Miss Minnie McCloskey Lester and local residents. Also notes several arrests including Geiffth Griffith in North Bend for drunken on a public highway, Robey Hamercy for vagrancy, and Wilfred Childers for possession of venison.

Broadbent Store Plans New Broadbent Post Office Site

Fred True of Broadbent has purchased land along the road from W A Roselle and aims to establish a Broadbent post office with Roselle as postmaster. Roselle will enlarge the store, build post office quarters, and move to Tulelake California after government approval. Miss Maxine Evernden is expected to continue duties in Broadbent.

RNA Meet Discusses Rally Plans at Marshfield Camp

Monday night meeting of the Marshfield RNA camp included deputy Mrs Anne Montgomery finalizing plans for a rally to be held in Marshfield next Monday. Miss Whitle and Mrs Francis Floyd received gifts for perfect attendance last year. A silver offering was taken for the Battleship Oregon memorial. Guests included Mrs Leonore Montgomery and Mrs Luella Curtis.

District Board Meet Today Sets Plans for District Program

The district board of ministers met Tuesday afternoon to plan the year’s program for the district. Thursday the Brethren ministers gathered to prepare for the conference at Myrtle Wood camp near Bridge soon. Visiting ministers include Rev A J Ellenberger of Ashland Rev H H Ritter of Mabel Rev R Ho Miller and Rev H G Shank of Portland with public invited to attend any meeting.

Local Couple Wed At Coquille

Miss Vashon Hall daughter of Mr and Mrs David L Hall of Myrtle Point wed Herman Nelson son of Mr and Mrs Ervin Nelson in Coquille. Engaged by Justice Clarence Barton the ceremony followed a 1938 engagement. The bride attended local high school graduating in 1937 while the groom works at a regional project. The couple reside in Radobaugh apartments as newlyweds with well wishers surprising them after a basketball game.

City Sanctions Relief Projects Highlighted by Mayor Barker

Pocketbook Tossed On Roof Found With I D

Myrtle Point plumber W R Pohl found a weathered pocketbook on the Herald building roof. It contained slips showing Mrs H Fitzsimmons and belonged to her daughter Joan lost near Thanksgiving. The purse held about one dollar, and the lender likely realized a larceny was not intended but the act still implies theft under the law.

61 Youths Compete In FFA Public Speaking Contest

Sixty one Myrtle Point FFA chapter youths enter the public speaking contest with five to seven minute speeches followed by a one minute Q&A. Two top speakers from each class advance to the final at the local grange. Security Bank Myrtle Point offers 9 3 2 prizes and silver buckle for best speaker.
