Plans are set for the annual Red Cross drive in the Myrtle Point area starting March 1 and running through the month with a quota of 85 225. Local leaders including Henry Schroeder and Rotary clubs urge generous donations to support war service activities.

Home from Arcata Mrs James Mahaffey returned home last Thursday from a week with daughter Mrs A B C Davia at Arcata Gall accompanied by Mrs Re ri Rackleff visiting Eureka relatives.
Mrs. Lewis McGeorge leads Coos county Red Cross efforts detailing seven thousand nine hundred twenty nine items produced last year including bedside bags slippers bed jackets and uniforms. spring quotas set for bath robes layettes and bags while members vote on leftover canteen funds for library or women’s club building use.
Churchman Roy Hillmor of the Lutheran church board attended Sunday evening services. He resides in Portland.
A Lions Club volunteer committee will run a citywide salvage pickup every Thursday starting March 1 at 4 p m. Members include E C Roberts Ted Kirsch Leslie Oden Owen Wilson and Dale Elliott. The drive will collect tin cans and waste paper with directions read to residents and all homes visited. The effort aims to boost wartime recycling as the Pacific campaign grows. Support from Ambulance Corps girls urged.
A small sawmill is being installed on the Gordon Tuber place seven miles up Halls Creek with Weber from Mossy Rock Washington planning operations this spring on a 440 acre fir tract employing 10 to 20 men. Weber expects to move a second Washington mill here after a two month run and place it nearby. Mrs Weber and the three children will join him after school closes.
Orvil Haga announces the Myrtle Point Locker and Cold Storage market will close for three days next week Tuesday through Thursday for front building remodel and redecorating. Side door access will be available for locker patrons during the closure. Kenneth Foote, formerly Pacific Salvage Metals proprietor, glimpsed in town, plans work at Hamilton Field after a 30 day vacation. Juanita Toddker of Weston visits Myrtle Point for two weeks at her niece Merle Poland’s home.
Myrtle Point Union High School Bobcats clinched their first county basketball championship pennant since 1988 by defeating the Marshfield Pirates 61 to 41 at Coos Bay. North Bend Tigers fell 53 to 44 in Myrtle Point, securing undisputed league supremacy and setting up a state bid with Eugene High School for district six.
The Tri-County Chamber representing Coos and Curry in Oregon and Del Norte in California met at Gold Beach on Monday afternoon to print several thousand folders promoting the coast. They will petition agencies for a school to train rehabilitated veterans in Myrtle wood furniture making and also discussed trucking for livestock and small industries. Attending Coos county members included Elton Schroeder, Burton Dunn, E C Roberts, Arthur R Jones, and Charles Schroeder.
Mr and Mrs Al Jones of Los Angeles have leased the Coquille Hotel Coffee Shop and dining room. They plan a formal opening next Monday the 26th. Jones, an experienced cafe operator and chef, will run hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Mondays. Mrs Jones remains in the south to settle their home but will join soon. A large dining room will host banquets for local service clubs.
Mrs H H Thomas announces Mrs Glen Putnam as local Red Cross chairman amid Thomas resignation after five years of war work. Harold Clarnot buys Chester Wilson farm home on North Fork road and plans move. Miss Bonnie James leaves Roberts Real Fathure for Bible school in Los Angeles. Miss Mary Jane Foote succeeds her with apartments arranged with Mrs Rebecca Adams.
