Weather observer Elmer Strode reports 3.84 inches of rain in Sitkum area over seven days totaling 8.84 inches. The Sitkum valley is flooded with road traffic at a standstill, but waters are receding as rains stop.
William Bain, a game commission biologist from Coquille, reports two log jams cleared on the Coquille River during the past week one at Beaver Creek on the South Fork and one on Steele Creek near Dora. He will coordinate fish salvaging with the Myrtle Point Sportsmen's club and others in the annual project.

Governor Holmes urged a law requiring universal automobile liability and property damage coverage in Oregon with a state insurance pool for uninsured drivers. He argued 85,000 uninsured motorists exist and current law lacks pre accident proof of financial responsibility, seeking passage in the 1957 session.
