Myrtle Point groups plan to recruit all residents into the Chamber of Commerce and form a community band led by A Atwood of Bandon. The chamber endorsed music outreach at meetings, while also backing a China relief drive and local garden club formation.
Dr Carl Knitter, now residing in Coquille, rents an office in The Herald building and will open his Myrtle Point practice in the latter part of this week. He came to the area about a year ago from Nanberg and lived in Myrtle Point briefly before moving to Coquille. He and Mrs Knitter will reside in the Ella Bryant cottage behind the J D Moore home on Fourth errest and move in immediately. P A Dillon of Oregon City visited Myrtle Point during the week to promote his book Who's Who in Oregon.
A local trade event opens with a broad display of goods at moderate prices. Mr Wrigh notes a wide variety of goals and affordable options attracting attendees.
Twenty five dairymen attended a night school at the union high school building led by Leland Wagner the new Smith Hughes man. Discussion centered on manure management cover crops and the need for manure pits and frequent hauling. Legumes were praised for under heads and all and next meeting will focus on commercial fertilizer and pasture.
Mr. Knyex will lead club work in Coos County and serve as county agent. He will also head 4‑H in Curry County under Harvey Hale in Coos County. The time will be divided equally between the two counties with state and federal aid covering most expenses. More 4‑H activity is planned for Coos County, including organizing in Curry County this year.
Coquille high school's basketball team overwhelmed Myrtle Point 35 to 10 on the local floor. Coquille held a 5 to 1 early lead and never trailed, with Myrtle Point struggling to mount a comeback. The preliminary game between second teams ended 18 to 16 for Myrtle Point. Upcoming games include Marshfield Tuesday and Bandon tomorrow as the Coos County Conference standings show Myrtle Point at 2-4 and Bandon 1-4.
Lions club hosts Airplane Dance at the Oaks on Saturday February 22 with Neldeigh's band providing music. Proceeds fund improvements to the town's landing field as nearby service clubs sell tickets and view aviation growth as vital.
The Goodyear Rubber Co. last week signed a contract with The Herald to run 1100 inches of display advertising during the current year. L. H. Pearce handles Goodyear products for the account.
A rough report from Coes county discusses the Fat Bik district test by the Ith Company aiming for rapid gas discovery. A Myrtle Point visitor observed the drill showing weed particles as depth increased, with the operation now using two shifts to hasten completion.
Shirley Hickam and J E Belloni assume control of City Transfer after purchase announced last week. The pair are known in the district for reliable service and manage the business with trained staff. Their operation previously served Goquille and nearby areas, including handling Empire pulp mill shipments.
Lundy Cheese invites stockholders patrons and families to a social at Schroeder hall Myrtle Point Saturday evening. Ice cream and coffee will be served and Twin Oaks School pupils will perform a three part program under the supervision of Mrs. E. E. Shaw.
A new Garden club formed at city hall with A M Cooper as president and Mrs Verme Lund secretary. Members from local clubs pledged cooperation, and initial registration included Elmer Russell, Jacob Nelson, E C Barker, George Taylor of Coquille, and many others.
The PTA sets its regular meeting for Tuesday evening the 28th with Mrs Marian King leading the main program and county health demonstrations. The event aims to engage every citizen.
Coos and Curry County sheep men may learn latest trends at a series of meetings. Talks by A. Lindgren of Oregon State Agricultural College and B. Clark of Be dew Clark Commission will address predatory animals disease and wool and mutton prices. Events run Friday February 1st in Brookings and Coquille, with further stops at Miller Bros ranch Dedderbarn McClay State ranch and others.

A stolen car described by lookouts was found by Mr. Pearson on the riverbank near the Southern Pacific depot. Attempt to push it into the water failed when the vehicle struck a tree halfway down. The car was recovered and taken to L. H. Pearce garage.
