District Adds Classroom To Relieve Overload At Maple School
The RLDS Church in Myrtle Point will host a new first and second grade class effective immediately to ease overcapacity at Maple School where enrollments reached 28 in some primary rooms. The board approved the move after Superintendent Jerry Bennett's recommendation. the class will be taught by Many Filen Robertson to restore class sizes toward the 24 student cap. The board also discussed extending Dora's grades to one through five, but tabled the motion for study, and considered district facility use for church release time classes with no action yet.

Myrtle Point hosts seventh Southwestern Oregon Jazz Festival
More than 250 students took part in the Myrtle Point event sponsored by the local music department held Saturday Feb 7. Judge notes praised bands while John Kendall said the concert was superb and audiences responded well with all bands improving from last year. Attendance was estimated at 400 to 500 with a benefit concert planned for Feb 26 featuring Les Simons and John Kendall. Marlowe Pounds, Myrtle Point alum, is named coordinator.

Bridge residents plan meeting to form rural fire district
Bridge residents will meet Monday February 16 at the Bridge school gym to form a rural fire district. Assistant state fire marshal Paul Hodgin and attorney Kurt Black will attend if enough residents sign the petition. The fire destroyed a large shop and storage building and threatened three homes. Sheriff Les Mulle may appear to answer questions. Booster funds from Pioneer Day will cover the filing fee.
